| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Nana B. | 4 | | Banks of Peoria, who passed away on February 4, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Nana B. Banks was born in Lexington, Mississippi | 6 | | to John Sargent Sr. and Lubirtha (Marshall) Sargent on May 18, | 7 | | 1928; she married James Buchanan Banks Sr. in Lexington, | 8 | | Mississippi on August 5, 1949, and he preceded her in death on | 9 | | September 21, 2007; together, they moved to Peoria; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Nana Banks was deeply committed to her faith; she | 11 | | was a member of the New Morning Star M.B. Church, where she | 12 | | served as a member of the choir, calendar tea, mothers, and | 13 | | deaconess boards; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Nana Banks was the matriarch of her family and | 15 | | affectionately known as "Mother Nana"; she loved cooking, | 16 | | raising her children, and caring for her grandchildren; she | 17 | | will be remembered for her great sense of humor; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Nana Banks was preceded in death by her husband | 19 | | of 58 years, James Buchanan Banks Sr.; her parents; and her | 20 | | siblings, James Mines, Lillie Davis, Herbert Mines, Mae Birtha | 21 | | Sargent, and John Sargent Jr.; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Nana Banks is survived by her children, Edward | 2 | | "Chic" Banks, Erma "Jean" Banks, James "Butch" Banks Jr., | 3 | | Gregory Banks, Dwayne (Demetra) Banks, and Kenneth (Tamia) | 4 | | Banks; her sister, Senora (George) Smith; 21 grandchildren; 27 | 5 | | great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a host | 6 | | of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; therefore, | 7 | | be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 9 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we mourn the passing of Nana B. Banks and extend our sincere | 11 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 12 | | her; and be it further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the family of Nana Banks as an expression of our | 15 | | deepest sympathy.
