HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend Lt. Brian Kulaga of the Cicero
4Fire Department for his recent heroic actions while off duty;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, On February 19, 2021, Lt. Kulaga was running
7errands for the firehouse when he spotted smoke and flames
8coming from the second floor above Waterworks Pizzeria &
9Tavern at 7815 Ogden Avenue in Lyons; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lt. Kulaga stopped and notified employees at
11Waterworks Pizzeria & Tavern that the building was on fire; he
12then asked the employees to show him how to reach the
13apartments on the second floor; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lt. Kulaga went to the second floor, where he
15located the first resident walking around in smoke and took
16him down the stairs to safety; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Upon learning there was another resident still
18inside, Lt. Kulaga returned upstairs and called to the second
19individual; with smoke to the floor, he crawled to the second
20man, found him, pulled him down to the floor, and dragged him
21out of the building; and

1    WHEREAS, After saving the two men, Lt. Kulaga assisted
2Lyons firefighters with hose lines; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lt. Kulaga has served as a firefighter in the
4Cicero Fire Department for 32 years; he is currently assigned
5as a lieutenant on Truck Co. 2 on Gold Shift; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lt. Kulaga was born in Cicero to Barbara and John
7Kulaga on February 7, 1967; he has been married to Louis C.
8Kulaga, a science teacher and coach at Gurrie Middle School in
9LaGrange, for 27 years; they have two children, Brian and Amy;
10they also have three Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Tazer, Koda,
11and Lilo; they reside in Riverside; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lt. Kulaga's quick thinking and bravery, done
13without protective gear with no regard for his own life, saved
14the lives of two men; he is a true firefighter and an honor to
15his profession; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we commend Lt. Brian Kulaga of the Cicero Fire Department for
19his selfless actions on February 19, 2021, and we thank him for
20his continued service to the community of Cicero and the
21citizens of Illinois; and be it further
