HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the University of 
4Illinois Men's Basketball Team, the Fighting Illini, on 
5winning the 2021 Big Ten Tournament Championship; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Illinois earned their third overall Big Ten 
7Tournament title in a 91-88 overtime victory over Ohio State 
8at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 14, 
92021; they also won the tournament in 2003 and 2005; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Illinois has the third-most all-time Big Ten 
11Tournament wins with 31; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Illinois has  the second-most Big Ten Tournament 
13championship game appearances, advancing to the title game 
14seven times; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Illinois won its three Big Ten Tournament games 
16by an average margin of 12 points, tied for the 
17seventh-highest margin in tournament history; the record is 
1814.3 set by the 2003 Fighting Illini; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Illinois enters the NCAA Tournament as No. 1 seed 
20in the Midwest region; this is the fourth time they have been

1selected as a number one seed and the first since the 2005 NCAA 
2Tournament; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
4HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we congratulate the University of Illinois Men's Basketball 
6Team, the Fighting Illini, on winning the 2021 Big Ten 
7Tournament Championship, and we wish them great success in the 
8upcoming NCAA Tournament; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
10presented to the members and coaches of the Fighting Illini.
