HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lillie Florence Goodwin, who passed away on May 21, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin was born to Reverend William M. Connor and Deborah Connor in Michigan City, Indiana on January 28, 1953; she was raised on the south side of Chicago where she attended her father's church, Rust United Methodist Church; she attended Bass Elementary and Englewood High School; she graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Education; and

WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin first worked as a teacher with Chicago Public Schools (CPS); she left CPS after two years and worked at Hoechst Pharmaceuticals as a pharmaceutical sales person; she eventually became the midwest director of sales; in 1993, she left Hoechst Pharmaceuticals and, in the spring of 1994, opened The Hyde Park Learning Resource Center; the center educated children after school, provided summer camps, and offered rigorous academic training and unique, enriching trips and activities; it served thousands of children over the last 27 years and left a legacy in the Chicagoland area of well-rounded alumni who attended colleges around the world and achieved their dreams; and

WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin was awarded a Golden Apple Award for her teaching prowess after her first year of teaching; and

WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin will be especially remembered for the love, empathy, kindness, and loving spirit she shared with everyone she encountered; she loved to spend time with her son Ryan, travel, play sports, entertain, engage in new conquests, and spend time with family; and

WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin was preceded in death by her father and her mother; her sisters, Willa Mae Pearl and Anna Mae Baliff; and her brother, Wayne; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lillie Florence Goodwin and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lillie Goodwin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
