HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lillie
4Florence Goodwin, who passed away on May 21, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin was born to Reverend William M.
6Connor and Deborah Connor in Michigan City, Indiana on January
728, 1953; she was raised on the south side of Chicago where she
8attended her father's church, Rust United Methodist Church;
9she attended Bass Elementary and Englewood High School; she
10graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Education;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin first worked as a teacher with
13Chicago Public Schools (CPS); she left CPS after two years and
14worked at Hoechst Pharmaceuticals as a pharmaceutical sales
15person; she eventually became the midwest director of sales;
16in 1993, she left Hoechst Pharmaceuticals and, in the spring
17of 1994, opened The Hyde Park Learning Resource Center; the
18center educated children after school, provided summer camps,
19and offered rigorous academic training and unique, enriching
20trips and activities; it served thousands of children over the
21last 27 years and left a legacy in the Chicagoland area of
22well-rounded alumni who attended colleges around the world and
23achieved their dreams; and

1    WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin was awarded a Golden Apple Award
2for her teaching prowess after her first year of teaching; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin will be especially remembered for
4the love, empathy, kindness, and loving spirit she shared with
5everyone she encountered; she loved to spend time with her son
6Ryan, travel, play sports, entertain, engage in new conquests,
7and spend time with family; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin was preceded in death by her
9father and her mother; her sisters, Willa Mae Pearl and Anna
10Mae Baliff; and her brother, Wayne; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we mourn the passing of Lillie Florence Goodwin and extend our
14sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
15and loved her; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Lillie Goodwin as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
