| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Cathedral of Joy | 4 | | (COJ) Family Life Center Church on the occasion of its 44 years | 5 | | in ministry; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, COJ Family Life Center Church was originally | 7 | | established as United Baptist Church in the home of Reverend | 8 | | and Mother J. H. Hinkle Sr. at 15725 South Ashland Avenue in | 9 | | Harvey in June 1977; the church then moved to a building at 231 | 10 | | East 146th Street in Harvey; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, United Baptist Church was renamed the Cathedral | 12 | | of Joy Church by Deacon Samuel E. Hinkle and chartered in 1977; | 13 | | and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The COJ Church's first deacons were Deacon Samuel | 15 | | Hinkle III, Deacon Henry Thompson, Deacon Clinton Mobley, and | 16 | | Deacon Clyburn Rogers; the church's first secretary was Sister | 17 | | Mary Thompson, who served from 1977 to 1980, and first clerk | 18 | | was Sister Geri Pitts, who served from 1980 to 1983; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Deacon Samuel E. Hinkle III announced his calling | 20 | | to preach in November 1978, becoming ordained by his father, | 21 | | Pastor J.H. Hinkle, in January 1979; he acted as assistant |

| 1 | | pastor and later became co-pastor to his father; he became | 2 | | pastor after his father passed on October 24, 1982; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, The COJ Church continued to expand rapidly during | 4 | | the 1980s, leading church leaders to search for a new | 5 | | location; the church relocated to Kedzie and Flossmoor Road in | 6 | | Flossmoor under the visionary stewardship of Pastor Samuel E. | 7 | | Hinkle III on October 16, 1988; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The COJ Church's growth continued through the | 9 | | 1990s, during which the church implemented the twofold | 10 | | objective of evangelism and discipleship; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The COJ Church continued its journey, relocating | 12 | | to 20401 Western Avenue in the Village of Olympia Fields on | 13 | | Good Friday, April 2, 2010, where it remains today; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The COJ Church continues to serve its | 15 | | parishioners and the community through a number of ministries; | 16 | | therefore, be it
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 18 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 19 | | we congratulate Cathedral of Joy Family Life Center Church on | 20 | | its 44 years in ministry, and we wish the church continued | 21 | | success; and be it further
