| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of William E. "Bill" Shannon of Elk Grove | 4 | | Village, who passed away on August 9, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bill Shannon was born in Jefferson, Wisconsin in | 6 | | 1930; he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison | 7 | | and married Joan M. McWayne on September 26, 1959; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, After 34 years, Bill Shannon retired from the New | 9 | | York Life Insurance Company as manager of the Chicago office; | 10 | | he also worked for several years after his retirement for the | 11 | | Byerly & Co. insurance agency; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Bill Shannon and his wife moved to Elk Grove in | 13 | | 1961; he was a man with a strong sense of community; he served | 14 | | on the Elk Grove Planning Commission for 12 years, from 1971 to | 15 | | 1974 as chairman; he was affectionately known as "Mr. Elk | 16 | | Grove" and helped shape the village's footprint and the next | 17 | | generation of leaders; he was well known because he helped in | 18 | | so many areas of the village; he was selected to be the grand | 19 | | marshal of the Elk Grove Village 40th anniversary parade in | 20 | | 1996; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Bill Shannon was a model of his Catholic faith; |

| 1 | | he founded and directed the Queen of the Rosary Catholic | 2 | | School religious education program from 1968 to 2003; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Bill Shannon was the beloved husband of the late | 4 | | Joan; the loving father of the late Tim Shannon, Sheila (Jeff) | 5 | | Starr, Steve Shannon (Kevin Wallace), and Laurie Shannon | 6 | | Tichvon; the dear brother of Sheila (Ron) Kostroski, Janet | 7 | | (Marv) Ferguson, and the late Jim, Patricia, Keith, Tom, and | 8 | | Jerry; the cherished grandfather of Andrew (Courtney), Greg, | 9 | | Matthew (Nicole), Dan, Meredith, Andrea, and Colin; and uncle | 10 | | to many loving nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | William E. "Bill" Shannon and extend our sincere condolences | 14 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 15 | | it further
