SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Roger Mills Landon of Chandlerville,
4who passed away on September 14, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roger Landon was born to Harold C. and Lou Ellen
6(Mashburn) Landon in Jerseyville on May 3, 1944; he graduated
7from Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville in 1962; he
8earned his bachelor's degree in Education from Illinois State
9University in Normal and his master's degree in Education from
10the University of Illinois-Champaign; he married Regina
11"Jeannie" Kuhn at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oconee
12on July 6, 1968; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Roger Landon began his teaching career as an
14agriculture teacher at Chandlerville High School in 1967; he
15became principal in 1974 and remained in that position until
161982; he then joined the team at Country Financial and opened
17his own office in Beardstown, where he remained for 31 years
18until retiring in 2013; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Alongside his wife, Roger Landon organized the
20Saddle Up for St. Jude event to benefit St. Jude Children's
21Research Hospital for the last 20 years, which has raised over
22$800,000; he received the Event Coordinator of the Year Award

1in 2012; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Roger Landon loved horses from an early age;
3throughout his life, he raised, trained, and showed Morgan
4horses in numerous venues throughout the country; he passed
5his love of horses to his children and grandchildren, properly
6teaching them how to ride; he enjoyed trail riding and camping
7with family and friends; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Roger Landon was known for approaching any task
9or hobby with unmatched passion; he loved his family with his
10whole heart and was very proud of his grandchildren; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Roger Landon was preceded in death by his
12parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert Charles
13and Virginia Kuhn; his brothers-in-law, Jerome "Jerry"
14Essington, Joseph Kuhn, and Kevin Kuhn; his sister-in-law,
15Carole (Kuhn) Wetherell; and his nephew, Jay M. Essington; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Roger Landon is survived by his wife of 53 years,
17Regina "Jeannie" Landon; his sons and daughters-in-law, Roger
18Michael (Tara) Landon and Ryan (Mariah) Landon; his
19grandchildren, Marlee (Ross) Hager, Kane Landon, and Brody
20Landon; his step-grandchildren, Conner Peterson and Logan
21Peterson; and his siblings and their spouses, Harold (Myrna)
22Landon, Mary Ellen Essington, Janet (Carl) Crawford, Elizabeth

1(Gerald) Fritz, and David Landon; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Roger Mills Landon and extend our sincere condolences to his
5family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Roger Landon as an expression of our
9deepest sympathy.
