SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John Edward "Jack" Sankey Jr. of
4Springfield, who passed away on November 7, 2021 at the age of
5101; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jack Sankey was born to John Edward Sankey Sr.
7and Katherine (Chatterton) Sankey on August 11, 1920; he was a
8native of Springfield; he attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic
9Grade School, Springfield High School, and Springfield Junior
10College; he completed his education at Hobart College in
11Geneva, New York; he served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1941
12to 1946, spending the majority of that time in the Pacific; he
13married Shirley Jean Studenroth in Springfield on May 10,
141957, and she preceded him in death on November 20, 2004; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jack Sankey co-founded the Sankey Brothers, Inc.
16Construction Company, where he served as president until it
17was sold in 1986; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jack Sankey was an active member of the
19Springfield community; he served on several boards of
20directors, including the LPGA Rail Charity Classic, the
21Springfield Airport Authority, and the Illini Country Club,
22where he also served as president; he was a member of the

1Sangamo Club, the Springfield Art Association, and several
2road paving associations; he was deeply committed to his faith
3and a member of the Blessed Sacrament and Christ the King
4Parishes; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Sankey enjoyed several hobbies and pastimes,
6including investing in the stock market, spending time with
7family and friends, watching NCAA basketball and football, and
8many more; he was passionate about golfing, and his personal
9claim to fame was that he shot his age or better from age 81 to
10age 92; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Jack Sankey was preceded in death by his parents;
12his wife; his brother, Robert "Bob" Sankey; and his sister,
13Katherine "Sis" Sudduth; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jack Sankey is survived by his sons, John E.
15(Jody) Sankey III and Robert M. Sankey; his daughters,
16Patricia (William) Marriott and Karen (John) Reyhan; his
17grandchildren, Karen Gail (Kory) Watson, Jacob Marriott,
18William (Kelly) Marriott, Melinda Marriott, Jacqueline Sankey,
19Robert Sankey Jr., Elizabeth Hope Sankey, Patricia Paige
20(Matt) Kaps, Madelyn Reyhan, and Franklin Reyhan; his
21great-grandchildren, Anna Marriott, Molly Marriott, Ford
22Fontaine, Finley Fontaine, Abigail Watson, and Jordan Watson;
23and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3John Edward "Jack" Sankey Jr. and extend our sincere
4condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5him; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Jack Sankey as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
