SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Herbert L. "Herb" Walls of Jacksonville, who passed away on February 10, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Herbert Walls was born to Howard and Mildred (Varble) Walls in Beardstown on March 4, 1929; he graduated from Beardstown High School in 1947; he then moved to Jacksonville; he married Eldena Duncan at the Central Christian Church in Jacksonville on August 24, 1958, and she preceded him in death; and

WHEREAS, Herbert Walls worked for A&P, and he was a member of the Illinois National Guard when called into active service for the Korean War in 1952; he entered his duty assignment as sergeant in Company B, 27th Infantry Regiment, known as the "Wolfhounds"; upon his return, he worked at A&P for many more years before its closing; he retired from the State of Illinois Department of Revenue; and

WHEREAS, For his military service, Herbert Walls earned the Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, and one Overseas Service Bar; he was authorized the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Badge in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Herbert Walls enjoyed spending time with his wife, and they had great fun challenging one another in table tennis, lawn jarts, croquet, horseshoes, and bowling; after their son was born, their enthusiasm was passed on, with many championship titles won and bitter defeat tasted from the subsequent competitions; and

WHEREAS, Herbert Walls will be remembered for being a wonderful man who was dedicated to his family; and

WHEREAS, Herbert Walls is survived by his son, Michael (Jamie) Walls; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Herbert L. "Herb" Walls and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Herbert Walls as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
