| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Melvin E. "Mel" Laverenz of Coal | 4 | | Valley, who passed away on March 28, 2022; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz was born in Davenport, Iowa to | 6 | | Lawrence and Ella (Diederichsen) Laverenz on March 16, 1944; | 7 | | he graduated from Davenport West High School and served with | 8 | | the U.S. Army in Europe for two years; he married Terrie | 9 | | Swanson in Orion on June 14, 1984; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz worked for the Crescent Electric | 11 | | Supply Co. until 2009; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz was a member of the Elks Club in | 13 | | Davenport for over 40 years; he was also a member of St. Paul | 14 | | Lutheran Church in Orion; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz loved watching all sports and | 16 | | especially enjoyed a good game; he enjoyed golfing and bowling | 17 | | and was an avid fan of NASCAR for most of his life; his | 18 | | vacations were often spent traveling across the country, | 19 | | hiking and camping with family and friends; family was of the | 20 | | utmost importance to him, and his children and grandchildren | 21 | | provided him with a constant source of pride and joy; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz was preceded in death by his parents | 2 | | and his brothers, Don and Gene; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz is survived by his wife, Terrie; his | 4 | | children, Shana (Kurt) Schindler, Katie (Mike) Crawford, and | 5 | | Bekka Laverenz; and his grandchildren, Courtney Schindler, Roy | 6 | | Schindler, Liam Crawford, and Emersyn Crawford; therefore, be | 7 | | it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 10 | | Melvin E. "Mel" Laverenz and extend our sincere condolences to | 11 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 12 | | further
