| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of James Loren "Jim" Burrus of Arcadia, | 4 | | who passed away on April 22, 2022; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Burrus was born to Loren W. "Pete" and Marie | 6 | | C. Bertolino Burrus in Jacksonville on January 11, 1950; he | 7 | | married Mary Bergschneider at the Church of Our Saviour in | 8 | | Jacksonville on July 12, 1969; he attended Lincoln Land | 9 | | Community College; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Jim Burrus was a lifelong farmer in the Arcadia | 11 | | area, where he raised corn and soybeans; he also raised | 12 | | organic, grass-fed Angus cattle and was a pioneer of | 13 | | Management Intensive Grazing in the area; he enjoyed mentoring | 14 | | farmers who wanted to get started in Intensive Grazing and was | 15 | | very willing to help them however he could; he hosted several | 16 | | farm walks on his farm as a way to inform farmers about his | 17 | | practices; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Jim Burrus, along with his wife, earned the | 19 | | Illinois Beef Association Environmental Steward of the Year | 20 | | Award in 2006, the Morgan County Conservation Farm Family of | 21 | | the Year in 2014, and the Illinois Department of Agriculture's | 22 | | Sustainable Agriculture Farmer of the Year Award in 2014; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Jim Burrus attended St. Mark's Catholic Church in | 2 | | Winchester; he held his private pilot's license and was a | 3 | | founding member of the Jacksonville Flying Club, and he loved | 4 | | flying whenever he could; he enjoyed having coffee with his | 5 | | friends in the morning and afternoon breaks at Klem's Hangar | 6 | | at the Jacksonville Airport; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Jim Burrus was preceded in death by his parents; | 8 | | and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Jim Burrus is survived by his wife, Mary; his | 10 | | daughter, Heather (Don) Viele; his grandchildren, Jared Viele | 11 | | and Olivia Viele; his sister, Lou Ann (Ron) Sweatman; and his | 12 | | nieces, Gina Holtz and Angi Bobsin; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 15 | | James Loren "Jim" Burrus and extend our sincere condolences to | 16 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 17 | | further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Jim Burrus as an expression of our | 20 | | deepest sympathy.
