SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John F. Trees of Springfield, who
4passed away on July 6, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Trees was born to Arthur C. and Frances M.
6Madigan Trees in Urbana on June 5, 1947; he graduated from
7Feisthans High School in 1965; he attended Lincoln Land
8Community College; he served in the U.S. Air Force during the
9Vietnam War, where he developed lifelong friendships and
10received an honorable discharge; he married Candice D. Senor
11in Springfield on September 28, 1974; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Trees worked as a skilled laborer and an
13accomplished carpenter, and he had several trade
14certifications; he retired from the Illinois Department of
15Transportation, after an illustrious career with the State of
16Illinois; his career included a stint at the Illinois State
17Fair, where he worked as a carpenter; he additionally served
18as a journeyman for the Carpenter Apprenticeship School and
19worked at the Clinton Nuclear Power Plant for a short time; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Trees was a member of American Legion Post
21809, Carpenter's Local 16, and Stationary Engineers Local 399;

1    WHEREAS, John Trees was a voracious reader and a student
2of history; he loved reading the Sunday New York Times,
3listening to good music, traveling, and eating delicious food;
4he also loved getting a good bargain, going to garage sales,
5and antiquing; in his younger years, he and his wife annually
6attended the New Orleans Jazz Fest; he was a devoted Cardinals
7fan and supported the local high school sports teams,
8especially the Southeast High School Spartans' girls
9basketball and track teams; he enjoyed taking hunting trips to
10Pike County and fishing at Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee with his
11daughters, brother, and nephews; he also enjoyed spending time
12with his grandchildren; and
 
13    WHEREAS, John Trees was affectionately known as "Papa
14John"; he was also fondly known as "Tall Trees" by his friends
15at Spammy's; he was a master carpenter who could fix anything
16or knew someone who could if he could not; he was always
17willing to lend a hand to those in need and knew no strangers;
18he and his wife had a welcoming home, opening it to family and
19friends in their times of need and hosting many fun filled June
20birthday parties; and
 
21    WHEREAS, John Trees is survived by his wife of 47 years,
22Candice D. Trees; his daughters, Peggi (Marcus) Trees-Gant,
23Jessi Trees, and Johanna (Dr. Corbet Ellison) Trees, Esq.; his

1niece, Dr. Alexandra (Sherwin) Lockridge Jr.; his
2grandchildren, Makai, Marisa, Megan, Dariana, and Madigan; his
3brother, Tom (Norma) Trees; his in-laws, Deborah (David)
4Burns, Lester Kevin (Linda) Senor, Patricia (Donald) Carter,
5Herman (Valeria) Senor, and Mark Senor; his nephews, Josh
6(Yvan) Trees, Brook (Lynn) Trees, and Patrick Trees; his good
7friend, Jesse Bustamante; his friend, John B. Hudson; the sons
8to whom he was a father figure, Donald, Harrison, and Ho Chi;
9his beloved dog, Max; a host of nieces and nephews; and all his
10friends around the globe; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13John F. Trees and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of John Trees as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
