HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize and congratulate Monica Maxey on being named to the 2023 Curriculum Associates Class of Extraordinary Educators; and

WHEREAS, Monica Maxey, a special education teacher at Summersville Grade School in Mount Vernon for the past 24 years, has made an outstanding professional effort towards improving the education and the lives of students in her classroom, and she has served as an advocate for equitable education to be available to and attainable for all children; and

WHEREAS, In the classroom, Monica Maxey engages in applying best practices while integrating technology and new techniques to increase independence in learning; and

WHEREAS, Monica Maxey is one of 30 educators from 22 states selected for exhibiting best-in-class use of I-Ready to illustrate the growth and achievement of students; and

WHEREAS, Monica Maxey was selected for demonstrating innovation and engagement practices for students and for being an evangelist for high expectations and student achievement; and

WHEREAS, In honor of her efforts, Monica Maxey was recently named to Curriculum Associates' 2023 Class of Extraordinary Educators and joins 110 additional educators from across the country in receiving this recognition; she was described as a true "rock star" by Curriculum Associates Vice President Emily McCann for her amazing work in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, Through this honor, Monica Maxey will be given the opportunity for ongoing professional learning and networking opportunities to help her continue to develop her expertise; and

WHEREAS, Monica Maxey was born and raised in Mt. Vernon; she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Southern Illinois University and her Master of Science in Academic Leadership from McKendree University; and

WHEREAS, Monica Maxey is the wife of Scott Maxey, and they have two children, Damon and Emma; her interests include spending time with family, travel, gardening, and photography; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Summersville Grade School Special Education Teacher Monica Maxey for her extraordinary efforts in and out of the classroom; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we congratulate Monica Maxey for being named to the 2023 Curriculum Associates Class of Extraordinary Educators; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Monica Maxey as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
