| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of William | 4 | | "Bill" Burns of Lake Villa, who passed away on March 21, 2023 | 5 | | at the age of 84; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Bill Burns was married to his wife Betty for 64 | 7 | | years; she was his first date, and they attended the junior | 8 | | prom together; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Professionally, Bill Burns had a 30-year career | 10 | | at Abbott Medical and started his own computer company as a | 11 | | challenge; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Bill Burns was active in sports throughout his | 13 | | entire life, including wrestling at the University of Notre | 14 | | Dame and managing the Boston Red Sox minor league level A team; | 15 | | he also expanded the Waukegan Youth Boxing Club and became a | 16 | | national level boxing judge; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Beginning with the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico | 18 | | City, Bill Burns and Betty traveled to over 53 countries, many | 19 | | of them more than once; he enjoyed planning the trips as much | 20 | | as actually traveling; later in life, he enjoyed golfing, and | 21 | | he golfed in all 50 states and several foreign countries; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, After retiring from his computer company, Bill | 2 | | Burns filled his days with volunteering at Prince of Peace | 3 | | Catholic Church, the Lake Villa Township Lions Club, and the | 4 | | Lake Villa Historical Society; he also helped on many local, | 5 | | state, and national political campaigns; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Bill Burns is survived by his wife; his | 7 | | daughters, Roxanne Vatter, Karen Burns, and Lilynn Kattner; | 8 | | his grandchildren, Savannah Vatter, Jacob Vatter, Steven | 9 | | Peklay, Christopher Peklay, Kaelen Kattner, Joshua Kattner, | 10 | | Emily Kattner, and Erin Taylor; his five great-grandchildren; | 11 | | his son-in-law, Dennis Bunsen; and his sister, Barbara Carter; | 12 | | therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 14 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 15 | | we mourn the passing of William "Bill" Burns and extend our | 16 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 17 | | and loved him; and be it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Bill Burns as an expression of our | 20 | | deepest sympathy.
