| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Cheryl | 4 | | S. Jackson of Chicago, who passed away on April 5, 2023; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Cheryl Jackson was born to James and Mabel Kirk | 6 | | in Chicago on March 18, 1952; she received her formal | 7 | | education in Chicago, attending Burnside Elementary School | 8 | | before transferring to McDade Elementary Classical School, a | 9 | | school for intellectually gifted students; she then attended | 10 | | John Marshall Harlan High School; she received her Bachelor of | 11 | | Science in Organizational Management from Calumet College of | 12 | | Saint Joseph in Whiting, Indiana; she married Robert L. | 13 | | Jackson; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, After completing high school, Cheryl Jackson | 15 | | realized her passion for law enforcement and joined the | 16 | | Chicago Police Department as a detention aide; after years of | 17 | | service as a detention aide, she became a sworn police | 18 | | officer; her talent was quickly noticed by her superiors, and | 19 | | she was chosen to be a district secretary; after completing | 20 | | this assignment, she was promoted to the rank of detective, | 21 | | where her critical and analytical thinking skills were on full | 22 | | display; while working as a detective, she was selected to | 23 | | work on a variety of task forces and achieved multiple |

| 1 | | Department of Justice certifications; she retired after 30 | 2 | | years of service; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Cheryl Jackson continued her law enforcement | 4 | | career as an investigator in the narcotics unit of the Cook | 5 | | County State's Attorney Office; after retiring from the | 6 | | State's Attorney Office, she continued to work part-time for | 7 | | the City Colleges of Chicago as a lead security officer, a | 8 | | position she held until her passing; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Cheryl Jackson enjoyed attending a good party, | 10 | | dancing, traveling, making new friends, and being one of the | 11 | | best dressed people in the room; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Cheryl Jackson lived a life full of love and | 13 | | light, and she welcomed everyone with a smile and a warm | 14 | | embrace; she will be remembered for being a devoted mother to | 15 | | her son, who made her incredibly proud; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Cheryl Jackson was preceded in death by her | 17 | | parents and her husband; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Cheryl Jackson is survived by her son, | 19 | | Christopher L. Jackson; her sister, Nova Dorn; and a host of | 20 | | nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 2 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 3 | | we mourn the passing of Cheryl S. Jackson and extend our | 4 | | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew | 5 | | and loved her; and be it further
