| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Village of River | 4 | | Grove in recognition of its 135 years of establishment; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, In the 1829 Treaty of Prairie du Chien, Claude | 6 | | LaFramboise received land alongside the Des Plaines River, | 7 | | encompassing most of what in 1888 would become River Grove, | 8 | | the "Village of Friendly Neighbors"; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, In 1833, LaFramboise sold the northern half of | 10 | | the land to his sister and the other to Jesse Walker, which is | 11 | | now the site of Triton College; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, In 1834, Jesse Walker and his son-in-law, David | 13 | | Everett, erected a bridge crossing the Des Plaines River along | 14 | | an Indian trail that would become Grand Avenue, which was a | 15 | | stagecoach line used to take passengers from Chicago to | 16 | | Galena; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Through a century of progress, River Grove | 18 | | experienced a hotel being built for travelers, the naming of | 19 | | Turner Park, the construction of the Rhodes subdivision, the | 20 | | establishment of a school and churches, and the incorporation | 21 | | of additional areas into the village; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, In 1964, Triton College was founded on River | 2 | | Grove's southern border; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Proud of the village's vast amount of verdure, | 4 | | River Grove is home to 350 acres of forest preserve, 290 acres | 5 | | of golf courses and cemeteries, 35 acres of public school | 6 | | property, and six acres of parkland; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, River Grove is also home to Gene and Jude's and | 8 | | has been for over 70 years, and the restaurant consistently | 9 | | ranks as one of the top producers of Chicago-style hot dogs as | 10 | | well as the "Depression Dog"; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Originally the Italianate-style home of Frederick | 12 | | Dohrmann, the River Grove Historic House & Barn is now a museum | 13 | | to show how people lived in River Grove in the late 19th | 14 | | century, connecting River Grove residents and visitors with | 15 | | the village's past; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, River Grove is rich with culture thanks to its | 17 | | German, Irish, Italian, Polish, and Latino residents, and the | 18 | | village connects every summer with River Front Fest at River | 19 | | Front Park; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, River Grove will celebrate its 135 years as a |

| 1 | | village in 2023, marking an historic occasion and celebration | 2 | | for all residents; therefore, be it
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 4 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 5 | | we congratulate the Village of River Grove in recognition of | 6 | | 135 years of establishment; and be it further
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 8 | | presented to Village President David B. Guerin, Village Clerk | 9 | | Marjorie A. Manchen, Trustee Lynn M. Bjorvik, Trustee | 10 | | Christopher J. Lilly, Trustee Michele M. Obaya, Trustee Robert | 11 | | C. Thomas, Trustee Lora M. Lantgen, and Trustee Benjamin E. | 12 | | Ramirez as an expression of our esteem and respect.
