| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Edward Jung for his | 4 | | dedicated work as president of the Chinatown Museum Foundation | 5 | | (CMF), a non-profit organization governing the Chinese | 6 | | American Museum of Chicago (CAMOC); and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2005, CAMOC is dedicated to the | 8 | | advancement of the appreciation of Chinese American culture | 9 | | and its contributions as an important part of the American | 10 | | fabric; the museum does this through exhibitions, education, | 11 | | and research to preserve the past, present, and the future of | 12 | | Chinese Americans, primarily in the Midwest; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Edward Jung, born and raised in a | 14 | | Chinese-Canadian-American working-class family in Chicago's | 15 | | Chinatown neighborhood, has long understood the complex | 16 | | dynamics within the evolving Chinese diasporic communities; | 17 | | through his vision and leadership, he has been instrumental in | 18 | | revitalizing CAMOC and preserving Chinese American heritage | 19 | | and history while expanding the public imagination of what it | 20 | | means to be Chinese in America; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Edward Jung graduated from St. Therese School in | 22 | | Chicago's Chinatown; he earned his Bachelor of Science in |

| 1 | | Marketing from the University of Illinois Chicago and his | 2 | | master's degree in project management from the George | 3 | | Washington University School of Business; professionally, he | 4 | | led global strategic sourcing during his 30-year career at | 5 | | Motorola; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Under Edward Jung's leadership, CAMOC has seen | 7 | | steady growth in the past seven years, becoming the home of | 8 | | vibrant exhibitions and programs that celebrate the diverse | 9 | | visions and experiences of being Chinese in America; he | 10 | | oversaw the museum as it weathered through the COVID-19 | 11 | | pandemic, continuing to engage the public through virtual | 12 | | programs during shutdowns; he was also instrumental in | 13 | | securing the two-million-dollar restricted Jean T. Lee | 14 | | Memorial Endowment Fund to ensure CAMOC's continued growth and | 15 | | fiscal health; through his guidance, CAMOC has become a | 16 | | reliable resource for educators to implement the Teaching | 17 | | Equitable Asian American Community History (TEAACH) Act, | 18 | | passed by the Illinois General Assembly, that incorporates | 19 | | Asian American history in every public K-12 school curriculum | 20 | | in Illinois; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Edward Jung remains an active civic leader and | 22 | | mentor, giving his time to several local organizations; he is | 23 | | currently serving as president of the Chinese American Civic | 24 | | Council (CACC), a nonprofit organization established in the |

| 1 | | 1950s that assists new Chinese immigrants with bilingual | 2 | | services and aims to help them navigate new social, cultural, | 3 | | and economic landscapes in Chicago; therefore, be it | 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 5 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 6 | | we recognize Edward Jung on his eight years of service as | 7 | | president of the Chinatown Museum Foundation (CMF), and we | 8 | | commend his dedication to preserving the heritage and history | 9 | | of Midwestern Chinese Americans and his vision of expanding | 10 | | the scope of contemporary Chinese American storytelling | 11 | | through exhibitions and programs at the Chinese American | 12 | | Museum of Chicago (CAMOC); and be it further | 13 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to Edward Jung and the Chinese American Museum of | 15 | | Chicago as an expression of our esteem and respect. |
