SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease
3of the central nervous system that affects nearly one million
4people in the United States alone; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis generally strikes people in
6the prime of life, between ages 20 through 50, and the cause
7and course of the often debilitating symptoms of MS remain
8unknown; no cure currently exists; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is
10committed to a world free of MS and heightening public
11knowledge about and insight into the disease; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has
13worked to transform what it means to live with MS and has
14provided global leadership to help achieve a vision of a world
15free of MS; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis
17Society has been a driving force of MS research by
18relentlessly pursuing prevention, treatments, and a cure,
19investing more than $1 billion in groundbreaking research; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Funds raised through the National Multiple

1Sclerosis Society fuel research on pathways to MS cures and
2are invested in the MS research workforce at the best medical
3centers, universities, and other institutions throughout the
4U.S. and abroad, leading to many breakthroughs in the
5treatment of MS; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis
7Society is to cure MS while empowering people affected by MS to
8live their best lives, a mission that all Americans and
9Illinoisans should support; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the month of
12March 2023 as MS Awareness Month in the State of Illinois and
13recognize the importance of finding the cause and cure of MS;
14and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That we encourage all Illinoisans to learn more
16about multiple sclerosis and what they can do to support
17individuals with MS and their families; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Greater
20Illinois Chapter in appreciation for their dedication to
21creating a world free of MS.
