2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Bernard W. "Bernie" Cerar of Monmouth, |
4 | | who passed away on May 26, 2023; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar was born
to Paul and Jeanette Cerar |
6 | | in Nokomis; he moved with his family to Carlinville and |
7 | | graduated from Carlinville High School in 1955; he served in |
8 | | the U.S. Army, where he rose to the rank of
staff sergeant and |
9 | | was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany; he married Monique Beau |
10 | | in Courbevoie, a suburb of Paris, France, on April 19,
1958; |
11 | | and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar and Monique owned and operated a |
13 | | number of
notable businesses, including Cerar's Barnstormer |
14 | | Restaurant; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar volunteered in various charitable |
16 | | organizations, served on his son's school board,
and more |
17 | | recently, proudly served as a fire-police commissioner of |
18 | | Monmouth; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar loved
going to Innkeeper's Coffee, |
20 | | where he enjoyed having coffee and many conversations with his |
21 | | friends; he loved following the news and watching vintage |

1 | | westerns, and he was a lifelong and loyal fan of the St. Louis |
2 | | Cardinals; he was a hardworking and caring son, brother, |
3 | | husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; and

4 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar was preceded in death by his |
5 | | daughter-in-law, Clare Conway Cerar; his grandson-in-law, |
6 | | Steven Russell; his parents;
and his siblings, Barbara, Helen, |
7 | | Paul, Henry, Doris, Jeanette, June, and Patty; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar is survived by wife of 65 years, |
9 | | Monique; his sons, Marc-Henri, Daniel, and Kevin;
his |
10 | | daughter-in-law, Amanda; his grandchildren, Nicholas, April, |
11 | | Amanda, Jennifer, Ryan, Katie, and Alexandra; his |
12 | | great-grandchildren,
Liam, Jaxen, Rylie, Connor, Clark, |
13 | | Abigail, and Anzleigh; his siblings, Claudette Krupnick and
|
14 | | George (Rita) Cerar; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, |
15 | | be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
18 | | Bernard W. "Bernie" Cerar and extend our sincere condolences |
19 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
20 | | it further
