SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Reverend Monsignor David S. Lantz, who
4passed away on September 26, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was born to Scott W. Lantz Jr.
6and Wanda "Rosie" Waller Lantz in Springfield on January 25,
71952; he attended St. Patrick's Grade School and graduated
8from Griffin High School; he attended Loyola University and
9received his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Cardinal
10Glennon College; he achieved his Master of Divinity from
11Kenrick Seminary and his master's degree in education from
12Saint Louis University; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was a retired priest of the
14Diocese of Springfield in Illinois; he was ordained a deacon
15in May 1977 and ordained a priest at the Cathedral of the
16Immaculate Conception on May 27, 1978; he received the papal
17honor of Chaplain to His Holiness, which was conferred on
18August 23, 2002; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz faithfully served every
20appointment made by the Diocese of Springfield, including St.
21Peter in Quincy, Quincy Notre Dame High School, Ss. Peter and
22Paul in Alton, Christ the King in Springfield, Griffin High

1School in Springfield, Sacred Heart-Griffin High School in
2Springfield, Springfield College in Illinois/Benedictine
3University in Springfield, Diocesan Seminary of the Immaculate
4Conception in Springfield, St. James in Riverton, Holy Family
5in Decatur, St. John Vianney in Sherman, St. Aloysius in
6Springfield, St. Mary in Taylorville, St. Rita in Kincaid, and
7Holy Trinity in Stonington; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz served the Diocese of
9Springfield in many capacities through the Office for Lay
10Ministry, the Office for the Diaconate, and the Office for
11Ministry Formation; he was bestowed the honor of pastor
12emeritus from Christ the King in Springfield in 2022 for
13demonstrating exceptional service and leadership within the
14church community; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz's service to the Diocese took
16him on many pilgrimages of faith around the world; most
17notably, he was provided the rarest opportunity to
18concelebrate mass with Pope John Paul II in 2001; he also
19enjoyed traveling with his family and closest friends; he was
20well loved by his parishioners, students, and family, creating
21bonds that lasted a lifetime; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz was preceded in death by his
23parents; and

1    WHEREAS, Rev. Msgr. Lantz is survived by his sister, Debby
2Lantz; his brothers, Mike (Paula) Lantz, Tim (Kitty) Lantz,
3Mark (Karen) Lantz, Steve (Mary Ann) Lantz, and Jeff Lantz;
4his uncle, Fr. Gary Lantz; 11 nieces and nephews; 12
5great-nieces and great-nephews; his friends who were like
6family; and his brother priests; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Reverend Monsignor David S. Lantz and extend our sincere
10condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
11him; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Rev. Msgr. Lantz as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
