| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Corinne M. (Olson) Stocks of Chicago, | 4 | | who passed away on October 20, 2023; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Corinne Stocks was born in the Chatham | 6 | | neighborhood of Chicago on June 26, 1929; she was a member of | 7 | | St. Dorothy Parish and attended the parish's grade school; she | 8 | | attended Mercy High School, where she was active in the a | 9 | | capella choir, theater, and newspaper, and also attended | 10 | | Wilson City College; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Corinne Stocks worked for the CBS radio station | 12 | | in the McGraw Hill Building in downtown Chicago before | 13 | | marriage; while working at the American Slicing Company, she | 14 | | met Edward P. Stocks, and they married in 1951; they later | 15 | | moved to Dolton and adopted their children, Peter and Sheila, | 16 | | from Catholic Charities; she volunteered with the New Hope | 17 | | School for children with intellectual disabilities and was | 18 | | active in her children's school, Queen of Apostles, where she | 19 | | headed a Great Books Club, served as treasurer for the | 20 | | athletic club, volunteered in the library, and more; she also | 21 | | worked for the Dolton Public Library for 20 years, where she | 22 | | served in a number of capacities before retiring as | 23 | | coordinator of community programs and films; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Several years after her husband's passing in | 2 | | 1980, Corinne Stocks moved to the townhome community Oak Hills | 3 | | Country Club in Palos Heights, where she made lifelong | 4 | | friends, played golf, and served on the golf and pool | 5 | | committees for many years; during her later years, she resided | 6 | | in senior living facilities in Tinley Park and Springfield; | 7 | | and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Corinne Stocks was an avid reader, a master at | 9 | | scrabble and crosswords, a lover of dancing, and a bridge | 10 | | player for most of her life; she hosted many Thanksgivings and | 11 | | other family gatherings, both in Dolton and Palos Heights, and | 12 | | she visited her grandchildren in Springfield and California; | 13 | | and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Corinne Stocks was well-liked, and she cherished | 15 | | the friendships she made across all phases of her long life; | 16 | | she will be remembered as a strong and influential woman who | 17 | | was fiercely independent and resilient; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Corinne Stocks was preceded in death by her | 19 | | husband; her parents, Ernest Olson and Mary Olson; her sister, | 20 | | Lorraine (Jack) Moriarty; and many other family members; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Corinne Stocks is survived by her children, Peter |

| 1 | | (Kathleen) Stocks and Sheila (Lawrence Smith) Stocks-Smith; | 2 | | her brother, Edward (Ann) Olson; her grandchildren, Ryan | 3 | | (Elexis) Stocks, Justin (Kathleen Su) Stocks-Smith, and Lauren | 4 | | (Peter Rechter) Stocks-Smith; her great-grandchildren, Elise | 5 | | Stocks, Ethan Stocks, and Gabrielle Stocks; her cousins, | 6 | | Richard Olson and Donald (Joanne) Colby; and her nieces and | 7 | | nephew; therefore, be it | 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 10 | | Corinne M. (Olson) Stocks and extend our sincere condolences | 11 | | to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be | 12 | | it further | 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the family of Corinne Stocks as an expression of | 15 | | our deepest sympathy. |
