| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Philip Sharp McCully of Toluca, who | 4 | | passed away on February 13, 2024; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Philip McCully was born to Everett S. and | 6 | | Geraldean (Thompson) McCully in Washburn on November 24, 1945; | 7 | | he graduated from Washburn High School and attended Illinois | 8 | | State University; in the mid-1960s, he opened the Rock House | 9 | | Teen Lounge in Washburn, giving teenagers from the surrounding | 10 | | communities the opportunity to gather and dance on Friday | 11 | | nights; he served in the Illinois Air National Guard; he | 12 | | married Sharon Holroyd/Holland on June 4, 1988, and they | 13 | | purchased a winter home in Florida in 2004, where they enjoyed | 14 | | spending winters and making new friends for 20 years; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Philip McCully worked for Crescent Electric and | 16 | | Englewood Electric before joining the Miller Light Company, | 17 | | leading him to start his own lighting agency, Philip S. | 18 | | McCully & Associates, in 1972; when he retired in 2012 after 40 | 19 | | years, he represented over 70 lighting companies and had | 20 | | previously worked with architects, engineers, corporations, | 21 | | universities, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and | 22 | | many others in the central Illinois area; for his professional | 23 | | knowledge, he received a number of accolades from the lighting |

| 1 | | industry; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, Philip McCully served as vice-chair of the | 3 | | Marshall County Republican Central Committee for 10 years | 4 | | before serving as chairman for 10 more years; he enjoyed | 5 | | helping support many local, state, and federal candidates over | 6 | | the years; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Philip McCully was committed to his faith, and he | 8 | | served as an elder and trustee at his church; he previously | 9 | | served on the board of Tall Oaks Country Club, on the Toluca | 10 | | City Council, the previous Toluca Business Association, and | 11 | | the Upper Illinois River Valley Development Authority | 12 | | (UIRVDA); he had also served as grand marshal of the annual | 13 | | Labor Day festivities in Toluca; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Philip McCully loved his family, and he enjoyed | 15 | | traveling throughout the United States and many other | 16 | | countries with his wife, watching his children and | 17 | | grandchildren playing various sports, attending dance | 18 | | recitals, golfing with his son and grandson, playing | 19 | | pickleball with his granddaughters, laughing with his family, | 20 | | and sharing their achievements with others; he was a fan of the | 21 | | Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, and the Florida Gulf Coast | 22 | | University Eagles; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Philip McCully was preceded in death by his | 2 | | parents; his brother in infancy, James Everett; and his | 3 | | brother, Keith McCully; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Philip McCully is survived by his wife, Sharon; | 5 | | his children from his previous marriage to Suzanne Dobrich, | 6 | | Lori (David) Durst, Stephenie (Tim) Schwanke, Melissa (Rich) | 7 | | Grandsart, and Derek (Karen) McCully; Sharon's daughters, | 8 | | Stefanie (Mike) Lansing and Michelle (Brad) Gerdes; his | 9 | | brother, Gary (Linnie) McCully; his sister, Sally (Larry) | 10 | | Arends; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and eight | 11 | | great-grandchildren, with one on the way; therefore, be it | 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 14 | | Philip Sharp McCully and extend our sincere condolences to his | 15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 16 | | further | 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Philip McCully as an expression of | 19 | | our deepest sympathy. |
