AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2927

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2927 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
52-3.206 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/2-3.206 new)
7    Sec. 2-3.206. Educators' experience teaching history;
8research and professional learning opportunities.
9    (a) Subject to appropriation, the State Board of Education
10shall conduct research using mixed methodologies to understand
11the experience of educators in this State teaching history to
12students across all grade levels in accordance with applicable
13learning standards and mandated units of study. This shall
14include, but not be limited to, surveying how instructional
15resources are being funded and incorporated into instruction,
16participation in professional learning opportunities, and

1educators' experience and comfort in implementing
2inclusive-history-mandated units of study. The State Board of
3Education shall report its findings and recommendations from
4this research to the General Assembly by December 15, 2026.
5    (b) Subject to appropriation, the State Board of Education
6shall provide professional learning opportunities for
7educators across all grade levels to further support the
8inclusive, inquiry-based teaching of history in schools in
9this State.
 
10    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
11becoming law.".
