| 2 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | 3 | | Assembly pays honor and respect to truly great individuals who | 4 | | have served our country and, in doing so, have made the | 5 | | ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Jared W. Southworth was born on May | 7 | | 28, 1982 in Mattoon, the oldest son of Robert and Kimberly | 8 | | Pierson Southworth; he was raised and educated in Oakland and | 9 | | graduated from Oakland High School in 2000; he later graduated | 10 | | from Lakeland College and Eastern Illinois University, where | 11 | | he was in the ROTC program; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Southworth married Chrissy Lynn Royer | 13 | | at the Oakland Christian Church on March 24, 2001; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Southworth was part of the HHC 2/130 | 15 | | Infantry Division of the Illinois National Guard and a United | 16 | | States Army Ranger; he lived his life by the motto "God, | 17 | | Family, Country"; he was a member of the Oakland Christian | 18 | | Church, a devoted husband, father, son, and brother, and loved | 19 | | the National Guard, considering it his privilege to serve his | 20 | | country; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Southworth served the community of |

| 1 | | Oakland as a part-time police officer and befriended many; he | 2 | | will always be remembered for his abilities on the baseball | 3 | | field and for his general love of life; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Southworth was killed while serving | 5 | | his country in Helmand, Afghanistan on February 8, 2009; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Southworth was preceded in death by | 7 | | his great-grandmother, Ettoil Coon; his paternal grandfather, | 8 | | William Southworth; and his maternal grandfather, Robert | 9 | | Pierson; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Lieutenant Southworth | 11 | | was survived by his wife, Chrissy Southworth; his four | 12 | | children, Logan, Owen, Carly, and Ally; his parents, Bob and | 13 | | Kim Southworth; his brother, Michael Southworth and his | 14 | | fiancée, Katie O'Connor; his sister, Nikki Bancroft and her | 15 | | husband, Brian; his nephew, Preston Bancroft; his paternal | 16 | | grandmother, Karen Watson; and his maternal grandparents, Gene | 17 | | and Joan Hartke; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 19 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | 20 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of | 21 | | Illinois 133 in Oakland as the "Lieutenant Jared W. Southworth | 22 | | Memorial Highway"; and be it further
