| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of former Illinois State Representative | 4 | | Robert John "Bob" Walters of Alton, who passed away on January | 5 | | 21, 2023; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Bob Walters was born to Joseph H. and Liguori C. | 7 | | (Dwiggins) Walters in Alton on July 1, 1930; he graduated from | 8 | | Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and | 9 | | St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa; he served in the U.S. | 10 | | Army in Korea from 1953 to 1954; he married Jeanne Osseck at | 11 | | St. Louis Cathedral in St. Louis, Missouri on May 19, 1956, and | 12 | | she preceded him in death on September 18, 2009; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, After his military service, Bob Walters worked | 14 | | with his brother, Joseph, in the family business at the J.H. | 15 | | Walters Company; he then worked for the National Shrine of Our | 16 | | Lady of the Snows in Belleville; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Bob Walters was elected to the Illinois House of | 18 | | Representatives in 1970, where he proudly served his | 19 | | constituents for two terms; he became executive director of | 20 | | the Southwestern Illinois Industrial Association in 1978, | 21 | | retiring in 2000; he was appointed to the Illinois State Board | 22 | | of Elections in 2005, where he served until 2012; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Bob Walters was active with the Alton Foundation | 2 | | and the William M. BeDell Achievement & Resource Center (ARC); | 3 | | he and his wife also founded the Serra Club of Madison County; | 4 | | and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bob Walters was known for his wit and his love of | 6 | | sports as an athlete, a coach, and an avid fan of Alton | 7 | | Marquette Catholic High School, Alton High School, and Lewis & | 8 | | Clark Community College athletics; he will be remembered for | 9 | | his faith, his attention to family and friends, and his | 10 | | undying love for his wife, Jeanne; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Bob Walters was preceded in death by his wife, | 12 | | Jeanne; his parents; his sister, Virginia; his brother, | 13 | | Joseph; his son, Robert John Jr.; his son-in-law, David Logan; | 14 | | and his grandson, Robert Logan; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Bob Walters is survived by his children, Jim | 16 | | (Angela) Walters, Theresa Logan, Linda (Justin) Scheiter, Tom | 17 | | (Megan) Walters, Mike (Polly) Walters, Carolyn (Bob) | 18 | | McCluskey, Mary (Ed) Zamorski, and David (Karen) Walters; his | 19 | | grandchildren, Jake (Paige) Walters, Ellen (George) Khoury, | 20 | | Jon Walters, Christopher (Casey) Logan, Patrick Logan, Sydney | 21 | | Scheiter, Sam Scheiter, Jackson Scheiter, Matt (Jenna) | 22 | | Walters, Ryan Walters, Hannah Walters, Nathan Walters, |

| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 7 | | former Illinois State Representative Robert John "Bob" Walters | 8 | | and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and | 9 | | all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 | | presented to the family of Bob Walters as an expression of our | 12 | | deepest sympathy.
