| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Randy Crumpton of Chicago, who passed | 4 | | away on January 14, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton was born in Chicago to Lander and | 6 | | Symathew Crumpton on April 16, 1965; he committed to his faith | 7 | | at an early age while attending the Fernwood United Methodist | 8 | | Church; he attended Van Vlissingen Elementary School and Percy | 9 | | L. Julian High School; he continued his formal education at | 10 | | Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he pledged | 11 | | the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and joined the fraternity's | 12 | | Epsilon Pi Collegiate Chapter in 1985; his interest in law | 13 | | school, politics, and election law was sparked when working | 14 | | with the late Chicago Mayor Harold Washington; he later | 15 | | graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago and | 16 | | received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa | 17 | | College of Law; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Immediately after law school, Randy Crumpton | 19 | | worked at Howse, Howse, Neville, and Gray, where he served as a | 20 | | law clerk to P. Scott Neville Jr.; after passing the bar exam, | 21 | | he began his law practice at the Law Offices of James Lourgos; | 22 | | he later started his own law firm and became a distinguished | 23 | | entertainment and election law attorney; he practiced in the |

| 1 | | areas of real estate, civil litigation, criminal law, | 2 | | evictions, probate, estate planning and copyright and also | 3 | | served as a court appointed attorney in the Child Protection | 4 | | Division of the Juvenile Court of Cook County; he was an expert | 5 | | on election law and argued and won Jackson v. Board of Election | 6 | | Commissioners before the Illinois Supreme Court; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his law practice, Randy Crumpton | 8 | | was prominent in the film and television industry and served as | 9 | | a board member of the Chicago International Film Festival; for | 10 | | over 20 years, he was the chairperson of its Black Perspectives | 11 | | Committee; he also served as an ambassador and contributor to | 12 | | the American Black Film Festival; he turned his admiration for | 13 | | filmmaking into a reality with his longtime friend, James | 14 | | Ramos; together, they formed Brave Face Productions and | 15 | | produced award-winning short films; he also co-produced Happy | 16 | | Birthday Langston Hughes - A Celebration in Poetry, Prose, and | 17 | | Song; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, In 2003, Randy Crumpton was appointed by the | 19 | | Governor to the Illinois Visual Media Task Force and was | 20 | | selected to attend the 2005 Sundance Institute's Independent | 21 | | Producer's Conference; he was instrumental in the dedication of | 22 | | a street to the late DJ Frankie Knuckles; in 2006, he became | 23 | | the director of MOVE! - The Chicago International House of | 24 | | Music Festival; in 2014, he co-founded and served as |

| 1 | | co-director of the Frankie Knuckles Foundation NFP; in 2016, he | 2 | | brought club owners, film producers, and entrepreneurs | 3 | | together to produce the film The Warehouse; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton remained committed to his | 5 | | fraternity; for many years, he served as the Great Lakes | 6 | | Regional Legal Counsel, the chairperson of the Carnation Ball | 7 | | for the Upsilon Sigma Alumni Chapter, and was named chairperson | 8 | | for 2019; he was active in the Cook County Bar Association and | 9 | | served as editor of the newsletter; he was one of the founding | 10 | | members of the Guide Group, L.L.C, which published the Guide to | 11 | | Black Chicago and the Guide to Chicago's Black Lawyers; he | 12 | | served as a member of the Character and Fitness Committee of | 13 | | the Illinois Supreme Court; he was known for his creativity, | 14 | | commitment, passion, and sincere friendship; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton was preceded in death by his | 16 | | parents and his brothers, Robert, Carl Lee, Billy, and Pete; | 17 | | and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton is survived by his sister, Betty; | 19 | | his brothers, Corneal, Jerome, William, and Clarence; his | 20 | | nieces, Khadijah, Felicia, and Natasha; his nephews, Carl, Jr., | 21 | | Treymaine, and Corneal Jr.; his godfather, Rev. Albert Sampson; | 22 | | his godmother, Jann Bennett Williams; his soror and cousin, Pam | 23 | | Clanton; his longtime fraternity brother and friend, Dr. Tim |
