| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Margaret Stuart Hart of Lake Forest, who | 4 | | passed away on January 27, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Hart was born in Chicago to R. Douglas | 6 | | and Harriet McClure Stuart on January 3, 1922; she spent her | 7 | | early years in Lake Forest and attended the Bell School before | 8 | | attending Miss. Hall's School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts; | 9 | | after high school, she returned to Lake Forest and graduated | 10 | | from The University of Chicago in 1944; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Hart married Augustin S. "Gus" Hart Jr. | 12 | | in Lake Forest on April 11, 1942; they spent the early portion | 13 | | of their marriage on military bases in Louisiana and Georgia; | 14 | | Margaret returned to Lake Forest and completed her college | 15 | | degree when Gus was sent overseas; after World War II, they | 16 | | moved to Long Island, New York and then settled in Lake Forest | 17 | | in 1960; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Hart was always active, athletically and | 19 | | otherwise; she enjoyed traveling, tennis, ice skating, skiing, | 20 | | golf, and horseback riding; she golfed and rode horses until | 21 | | she was 94; she loved the outdoors, especially the Wyoming | 22 | | Rockies to which she travelled from age 6 to 96 to visit her |

| 1 | | family's ranch; in her teenage years, she hunted big game, fly | 2 | | fished, hiked, and rode extensively; she was happiest when | 3 | | riding her horse and exploring in the Clarks Fork Valley of | 4 | | Wyoming; she was a lifelong artist and drew her own Christmas | 5 | | cards starting at age 12; she loved making up plays and skits | 6 | | with her grandchildren and having costume parties; she had a | 7 | | wonderful sense of humor and fun; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Hart was active in the First Presbyterian | 9 | | Church of Lake Forest; she served for many years as trustee and | 10 | | board chair of the McCormick Theological Seminary; she was a | 11 | | life trustee of Lake Forest College and Lake Forest Open Lands; | 12 | | she was active in many civic and charitable organizations, | 13 | | including the school board, WTTW, the National Parks | 14 | | Conservation Association, the Cotton Bay Foundation in | 15 | | Eleuthera, Bahamas, and the Department of Defense Advisory | 16 | | Committee on Women in the Armed Services; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Hart was active in Republican politics | 18 | | and served in many volunteer efforts and positions; she | 19 | | strongly supporting local, regional, state, and federal | 20 | | candidates throughout her life; she had strong views about what | 21 | | was right and wrong, but was always willing to listen to those | 22 | | who opposed her viewpoint and was never afraid to question | 23 | | those of her own party with whom she might disagree; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Hart was preceded in death by her, | 2 | | husband, Gus; her sisters, Anne Stuart Batchelder and Harriet | 3 | | Stuart Spencer; her brother, Robert D. Stuart Jr.; and her | 4 | | sons, Douglas Stuart Hart and Robert Dixon Hart; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Hart is survived by her daughters, | 6 | | Kathryn Hart (Robert) Lansing and Heather Hart (Walter) | 7 | | Goldstein; her son, Augustin S. (Becky) Hart III; her | 8 | | daughters-in-law, Harriet Corbett and Trenay Hart; her | 9 | | grandchildren, Stuart (Farley) Lansing, Sage Lansing (Austin) | 10 | | DePree, Gerrit (Christyn) Lansing, Philip Hart, Austin Hart, | 11 | | Abra Gasser, and Brandon, Nathanial, and Margot Goldstein; her | 12 | | sister-in law, Lillan Stuart; seven great-grandchildren; and | 13 | | numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 16 | | Margaret Stuart Hart and extend our sincere condolences to her | 17 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 18 | | further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to the family of Margaret Hart as an expression of | 21 | | our deepest sympathy.
