| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Carlos J. Nelson, Sr., of Posen, who | 4 | | passed away on February 24, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born on March 19, 1930, on the Southside of | 6 | | Chicago, to Ernest and Mary Nelson; he was the oldest of five | 7 | | sons; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, He attended St. Elizabeth's Elementary and High | 9 | | School; he attended Lewis University, where he excelled in his | 10 | | studies while playing football; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, He was employed as one of the first | 12 | | African-Americans at Reynolds Metal in McCook, where he worked | 13 | | for nearly 40 years; he was a devoted member of St. Stanislaus | 14 | | Parish as well as a committed volunteer and civic servant to | 15 | | the village of Posen; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, He enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, and | 17 | | music; he followed the stock market; he traveled the country | 18 | | using his CB radio and his handle "Cisco"; he enjoyed bowling | 19 | | and golf, both of which he did for more than 50 years; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and his |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Carlos Nelson, Sr. is survived by his wife of 42 | 3 | | years, Aurora; his son, Carlos; his daughters, Sharon (William) | 4 | | Karen, Linda (John), Elizabeth (Ron), Ernestina, Aurora, Carla | 5 | | (Randy), and Raquel (Steve); his brother, Bernard; his "sis", | 6 | | Myrtle; his 22 grandchildren; his 10 great-grandchildren; his | 7 | | nieces, nephews, other relatives; and his close friends; | 8 | | therefore, be it
