| HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, On Saturday, February 7, 2009, the DeKalb High | 3 |
| School Varsity boy's basketball team played the Milwaukee | 4 |
| Madison High School's boys basketball team in Milwaukee, | 5 |
| Wisconsin; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, A player for the Madison High team had lost his | 7 |
| mother earlier in the day after a five-year battle with | 8 |
| cervical cancer; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The Coach for Madison High School, Aaron Womack | 10 |
| Jr. arrived late to the game, but indicated to the DeKalb | 11 |
| coaching staff the situation and told them that his team still | 12 |
| intended to play;
and | 13 |
| WHEREAS, DeKalb Head Coach Dave Rohlman told Coach Womack | 14 |
| the team would be understanding of time constraints as well as | 15 |
| for the cancellation of the game; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, During the second quarter of the game the player | 17 |
| whose mother had passed away arrived at the game, wanting to | 18 |
| play; Coach Womack had not entered the player's name into the | 19 |
| scorers book at the start of the game, believing he would not | 20 |
| participate; and
|

| WHEREAS, The referee informed Coach Womack and the DeKalb | 2 |
| coaching staff that this player could play, but Madison High | 3 |
| would be charged with a technical foul; the DeKalb coaching | 4 |
| staff could be overheard stating that they would not take a | 5 |
| technical foul against Madison High;
and | 6 |
| WHEREAS, When the young man from Madison High was put into | 7 |
| the game his school was charged with a technical foul; Darius | 8 |
| McNeal of DeKalb High School volunteered to shoot the free | 9 |
| throws;
and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, When McNeal stepped to the free throw line he | 11 |
| purposefully missed both shots as a sign of DeKalb High's | 12 |
| discontent with Madison High being given a technical foul; | 13 |
| therefore, be it
| 14 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 15 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 16 |
| congratulate the DeKalb High School Varsity Basketball Team for | 17 |
| their good example, their good sportsmanship, their character, | 18 |
| their leadership, and their compassion for others; and be it | 19 |
| further
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 |
| presented to the Superintendent of DeKalb School District 408 | 22 |
| and the members and coaching staff of the DeKalb Varsity |
