| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Officer | 4 | | Raymond Murrell of the Bloomingdale Police Department, who | 5 | | passed away on January 19, 2017, at the age of 27; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Officer Murrell was the first Bloomingdale | 7 | | officer to die in the line of duty; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, While growing up, Officer Murrell dreamed of | 9 | | becoming a police officer; he graduated from
Addison Trail High | 10 | | School and received his law enforcement degree from Westwood | 11 | | College; he
graduated from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy | 12 | | in June of 2016, where he was awarded
the George Graves Award | 13 | | for being selected by his fellow
officers in the class as the | 14 | | most distinguished recruit; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Officer Murrell lived in Addison and had served on | 16 | | the Bloomingdale Police Department
since March of 2016; prior | 17 | | to that, he was a corrections officer with the Cook County
| 18 | | Sheriff's Department; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, In his spare time, Officer Murrell enjoyed | 20 | | spending time with his family, especially his niece,
Mia; he | 21 | | was devoted to his family, the community, and law enforcement; |

| 1 | | he was an
exemplary public servant, an integral part of the | 2 | | Bloomingdale Police Department, and a hero
to many in the | 3 | | Bloomingdale community; he received a Bloomingdale Police | 4 | | Department Commendation for assisting a fellow
officer in | 5 | | saving a life; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Officer Murrell was the beloved son of Anthony | 7 | | (Lori) Murrell and Mary Aguero;
the brother of Antoinette | 8 | | Williams; the loving uncle of Mia Williams; the grandson of | 9 | | Marina Lopez and
the late Alma and Walter Murrell; the beloved | 10 | | nephew of many aunts and uncles; and cousin to many; therefore, | 11 | | be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 13 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 14 | | mourn the passing of Officer Raymond Murrell, and extend our | 15 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 16 | | and loved him; and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Officer Murrell as an expression of | 19 | | our deepest sympathy.
