| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Margie Ree Brumfield on | 4 |
| Sunday, February 27, 2005; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born December 18, 1939, in Prentiss, | 6 |
| Mississippi, the fifth of twelve children born to Robert and | 7 |
| Lonnie Mae Phillips, Sr.; she graduated from Prentiss Normal | 8 |
| and Industrial Institute High School in Prentiss, Mississippi, | 9 |
| in 1959 and later moved to Chicago; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, She married Myrtis Brumfield on August 13, 1960; | 11 |
| they were married for 44 years; she started employment with | 12 |
| Sara Lee Bakery in 1964, where she worked for 27 years; she | 13 |
| later worked with Nabisco and retired from Nabisco after 37 | 14 |
| combined years under the Baker, Confectionery, and Tobacco | 15 |
| Worker's International Union (AFL-CIO & CLC); and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Margie joined Christ Temple Cathedral under the | 17 |
| leadership of the late Bishop O. W. McInnis in 1975; as an | 18 |
| outgrowth of her Christian development, she became a member of | 19 |
| the Deaconess Board under the leadership of Bishop Emery | 20 |
| Lindsay and served faithfully; she was a member of the Sunday | 21 |
| School and attended the Deborah's class and Sunday morning | 22 |
| worship services faithfully until her health failed; and
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Brumfield will be remembered for her warm, | 24 |
| loving, and kind spirit; she had a big heart, and she loved to | 25 |
| cook and entertain; her home was open to all and was often a | 26 |
| gathering place for family, friends, food, and fun; because of | 27 |
| this she was often called Hazel; she also loved traveling and | 28 |
| shopping; and
| 29 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Margie Ree Brumfield has been | 30 |
| deeply felt by many, especially her husband, Myrtis Brumfield; |

| her daughter, Joyce E. (Bobby) Lay; her sons, Leander (Norie) | 2 |

| Annie Lois (Artie) Byrd, Mae (Willie) White, Emma (James) | 5 |
| Kitchens, Eloise (Al) Wallace, Lonnie "Sweet" (Joe) Payne, and | 6 |
| Ruby (Willie) Wright; her brothers, R. C. (Maxine) Phillips and | 7 |
| James (Geraldine) Phillips; her brother-in-law, Eugene | 8 |
| (Phaylor) Brumfield; her sisters-in-law, Fairley (William) | 9 |
| Willis, Lucinda (Abraham) Snyder, Hilda Brumfield, and Robin | 10 |
| Phillips; her grandchildren, Latosha Tyler, Leander Brumfield, | 11 |
| Jr., Patrick Brumfield, Robert F. Lay, Danielle Tyler, Tyler | 12 |
| Brumfield, Christopher J. Lay, and Simone Brumfield; her aunt, | 13 |
| Reatha Mae Berry; her godmother, Maggie Hodo; her godchildren, | 14 |
| Jada and Jarron Yancey; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, | 15 |
| and friends; she was preceded in death by her brothers Robert | 16 |
| Phillips, Jr., E.J. Phillips, and Eddie Phillips; therefore, be | 17 |

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 19 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 20 |
| Margie Ree Brumfield, and we extend our deepest sympathy to her | 21 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 22 |
| further
| 23 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 24 |
| presented to her family as an expression of our sincere | 25 |
| condolences.
