| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of James "Jim" Hixson of Silvis, who passed | 4 | | away on January 19, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Hixson was born to Marvin Emery and Ellen | 6 | | Henrietta Olivier Hixson on September 4, 1949; his early years | 7 | | in Colona were spent hunting, fishing, trapping, raising farm | 8 | | animals, training horses, and working with his father in | 9 | | Hixson's Heating and Plumbing; he graduated from United | 10 | | Township High School in 1967 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine | 11 | | Corps in 1968; he served with the 2nd Ordnance/Field | 12 | | Maintenance Company 4th Marines through 1974; he married | 13 | | Jacqueline Guerrero on September 26, 1977; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Jim Hixson worked at the George Evans Corporation | 15 | | and John Deere as a welder and metal worker repairman for 17 | 16 | | years; he also worked at Quad City Downs, Casino Rock Island, | 17 | | and Rock Valley Industrial Therapy; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1994 at age 45, Jim Hixson enrolled at Western | 19 | | Illinois University; he graduated summa cum laude in 1996 and | 20 | | taught in the Silvis/East Moline Elementary and Junior High | 21 | | School districts from 1998 to 2003; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Jim Hixson was a service-connected disabled | 2 | | veteran; he was a lifetime member of Vietnam Veterans of | 3 | | America Chapter 299 and the Disabled American Veterans, where | 4 | | he served as managing editor of the chapter newsletter, | 5 | | Shoulder To Shoulder; he played Taps as a bugler with Bugles | 6 | | Across America; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Jim Hixson enjoyed spending time with his family | 8 | | and many friends, music, reading, gardening and lawn work, and | 9 | | utilizing his home gym throughout the years; he and his wife | 10 | | renewed their wedding vows in 2008; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Jim Hixson was immensely proud of being Native | 12 | | American; he received his third Sioux Eagle Feather in 2008 and | 13 | | acceded to elder status as a Lakota pipe carrier; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Jim Hixson was preceded in death by his parents; | 15 | | his sister, Donna; his brother-in-law, Bill Dailing; and his | 16 | | father-in-law, Roy Guerrero; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Jim Hixson is survived by his wife, Jackie; his | 18 | | daughters, Andrea (Brian) Nehlsen and Alissa Hixson; his | 19 | | grandsons, Vincent, Sage, Oliver, and Archer; his sisters, | 20 | | Janet Dailing and Jody (Chris) McClain; his mother-in-law, | 21 | | Rufina Guerrero; his brother-in-law, Earle McBride; and | 22 | | numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 3 | | James "Jim" Hixson and extend our sincere condolences to his | 4 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 5 | | further
