| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of
Carl Lee White, Sr., who passed away on | 4 | | February 15, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Carl Lee White, Sr. was born in Altheimer, | 6 | | Arkansas, on January 26, 1932; his parents were Murphy White | 7 | | and Mamie Harris; he married his loving wife, Blanchie, on | 8 | | January 16, 1951; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Carl Lee White, Sr. was raised in Arkansas and | 10 | | received his education from Logabayou School; as a young man, | 11 | | he accepted Christ as his personal Savior at Logabayou | 12 | | Missionary Baptist Church; as a child, he put aside his | 13 | | education and began to work in order to provide for his family; | 14 | | he picked cotton and worked in the oil fields pumping oil for | 15 | | cars; after many years, he eventually completed his education | 16 | | and graduated high school; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1952, Carl Lee White, Sr. moved his family to | 18 | | Texas, where they continued to reside for several years; in | 19 | | 1957, the White family relocated to Chicago, where they united | 20 | | with the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church (now Joshua | 21 | | Missionary Baptist Church); he was subsequently baptized and | 22 | | ordained as a Deacon of Joshua MB Church; in April of 1964, he |

| 1 | | accepted the call to preach the gospel; in just a few months, | 2 | | Deacon White was elevated to the position of Pastor; in June of | 3 | | 1964, Pastor White and the Joshua MB Church moved to their new | 4 | | location at 3316 West Roosevelt Road; under Pastor White's | 5 | | leadership, the church's membership grew in numbers, requiring | 6 | | a move to the church's current location at 3255 West Carroll | 7 | | Avenue; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Under the guidance of Pastor White, Joshua | 9 | | Missionary Baptist Church became well known for its outstanding | 10 | | choir and for the dynamically preached words that went forth; | 11 | | Pastor White's love for the choir and gospel music caused him | 12 | | to form a musical group called The Jubilaires; he furthered his | 13 | | education through the Chicago Baptist Institute and Moody Bible | 14 | | College; he also mentored many deacons, preachers, and sons in | 15 | | the ministry; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Pastor White was affiliated with the Sunlight | 17 | | District and the National Baptist Convention; he marched in | 18 | | Gage Park in Chicago with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King in | 19 | | furtherance of civil rights; in 1966, he was instrumental in | 20 | | the implementation of Black History Month Celebrations at | 21 | | Harrison High School in Chicago; he worked with various | 22 | | companies and developed several trades; he was also influential | 23 | | in providing assistance to the homeless, feeding the sick and | 24 | | senior citizens, and establishing youth and job training |

| 1 | | programs and counseling services; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Carl Lee White, Sr. was preceded in death by his | 3 | | parents; his brothers, Willie and Monroe; his sister, Dorothy | 4 | | White Newton; and his son, Kenneth White; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Carl Lee White, Sr. is survived by his sons, | 6 | | Apostle Carl Lee White Jr. (Pamela), James White (Carol), | 7 | | Timothy White, and Lauren White; his daughters, Annette | 8 | | Northington (Pearlie), Pharistener Cash, Vicky White, and | 9 | | Charlotte White; his brother, Murphy White Jr.; his sister, | 10 | | Maydine Davis (Calvin); and his many grandchildren, | 11 | | great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and | 12 | | friends; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 15 | | his family and friends, the passing of Carl Lee White, Sr.; and | 16 | | be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Carl Lee White, Sr. as an expression | 19 | | of our sympathy.
