| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize the First United Methodist | 4 | | Church of Mount Vernon and the many volunteers serving the | 5 | | Angels on Assignment mission; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, In 1991, Betty Lipps felt called to serve her | 7 | | fellow citizens, initiating the creation of Angels on | 8 | | Assignment; she organized volunteers to carry out her vision | 9 | | of helping individuals and families struggling to survive in | 10 | | tough economic times; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Since that time, thousands of volunteers have | 12 | | worked tirelessly to make life better for the people of | 13 | | Jefferson County and the entire region of Southern Illinois | 14 | | for more than 30 years; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment helps to provide financial | 16 | | aid, food, clothing, and shelter to individuals and families | 17 | | in need; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment's food pantry is its most | 19 | | well-known ministry, garnering support from the Central Food | 20 | | Bank and Midwest Mission Distribution; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment additionally runs a thrift | 2 | | store, which helps support the food bank and is made possible | 3 | | by members of the public, who play a vital role by donating | 4 | | items that are sold at the store and by volunteering to clean, | 5 | | sort, and sell clothes at the store; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment's volunteers participate in | 7 | | many other charitable activities throughout the year and | 8 | | contribute their time, effort, and resources to a number of | 9 | | great causes, including bell ringing for the Salvation Army | 10 | | during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment has been led by Executive | 12 | | Directors Betty Lipps, Carol Thomas, and Anne Bothe; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Angels on Assignment and its dedicated volunteers | 14 | | have served thousands of people and families in need since its | 15 | | inception; therefore, be it
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 17 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 18 | | we recognize the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon | 19 | | for their years of dedicated volunteer service; and be it | 20 | | further
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That we recognize and thank the volunteers of |

| 1 | | Angels on Assignment for their tireless work to make life | 2 | | better for the less fortunate and for serving the people of | 3 | | Mount Vernon, Jefferson County, and Southern Illinois for more | 4 | | than 30 years; and be it further
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That we further recognize Executive Directors | 6 | | Betty Lipps, Carol Thomas, and Anne Bothe of Angels of | 7 | | Assignment for their leadership and commitment to the | 8 | | organization's efforts; and be it further
| 9 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 10 | | presented to the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon | 11 | | and Angels on Assignment as an expression of our esteem and | 12 | | respect.
