| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Freda Aron; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Freda Aron was born in 1915 in Brooklyn, New York, | 5 | | to Sam and Dora Umansky; at the age of 21, she moved to Chicago | 6 | | for nursing school, where she met and married Dr. Richard F. | 7 | | Aron; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Freda Aron didn't let her later years slow her | 9 | | down; she moved to Utah as a VISTA volunteer at the age of 75, | 10 | | where she practiced nursing on a Navajo reservation; she then | 11 | | moved to Sitka, Alaska, to volunteer in running a shelter for | 12 | | abused women and children; it was in Alaska where she kayaked | 13 | | for the first time at the youthful age of 95; she volunteered | 14 | | as a forest ranger/goodwill ambassador and delighted visitors | 15 | | with stories of the city and her past while in Sitka; she | 16 | | hosted a regular radio program called "Frankie and Freda" where | 17 | | she shared her favorite singer, Frank Sinatra, with her | 18 | | listeners; she enjoyed writing, politics, and chocolate; she | 19 | | wrote regularly for various newspapers and was the editor of | 20 | | SHE, the first local newspaper exclusively for women; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Freda Aron was preceded in death by her parents; | 22 | | her husband; and her sister, Esther; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Freda Aron is survived by her children, Stan, Len, | 2 | | Cara, and Linda; her daughters-in-law, Brenda and Liz; her | 3 | | grandchildren, Cade (Bari), Victoria, Marisa, and Shauna; and | 4 | | her sister, Millicent; therefore, be it
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 7 | | Freda Aron, and we extend our deepest condolences to her | 8 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 9 | | further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 | | presented to the family of Freda Aron as an expression of our | 12 | | deepest sympathy.
