| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Stephanie Pace | 4 |
| Marshall as she steps down as founding President of the | 5 |
| Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy on June 30, 2007; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, is | 7 |
| an internationally recognized pioneering educational | 8 |
| institution created in 1985 by the State of Illinois to develop | 9 |
| talent and leadership in mathematics, science, and technology | 10 |
| teaching and learning; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Stephanie Pace Marshall received her B.A. from | 12 |
| Queens College, her M.A. from the University of Chicago, and | 13 |
| her Ph.D. from Loyola University; she also holds honorary | 14 |
| degrees from Aurora University, North Central College, and | 15 |
| Illinois Wesleyan University; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Marshall is an internationally recognized | 17 |
| pioneer, leader, and teacher; she is a speaker and writer on | 18 |
| leadership, learning and schooling, and the design of | 19 |
| generative and life-affirming learning organizations; and
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Marshall was the founding president of the | 21 |
| National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools in |

| Mathematics, Science and Technology, and the president of the | 2 |
| Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development; and
| 3 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Marshall has been recognized by the RJR | 4 |
| Nabisco Corporation as one of the nation's most innovative | 5 |
| educational leaders and by the National Association of School | 6 |
| Boards as one of North America's 100 Best Educators; she has | 7 |
| received many awards, including the Distinguished Service | 8 |
| Award from the United States Marine Corps, the Woman | 9 |
| Extraordinaire Award by the International Women's Association, | 10 |
| and the Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award from the Boy | 11 |
| Scouts of America; and | 12 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Marshall was selected by the Chicago Sun Times | 13 |
| as one of the ten most powerful women in education and one of | 14 |
| the 100 most powerful women in Chicago; and she was invited by | 15 |
| Queen Noor of Jordan to join the Board of Directors of the | 16 |
| Queen Noor Jubilee School in Amman, Jordan; therefore, be it
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 18 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 19 |
| congratulate Dr. Stephanie Pace Marshall on her many | 20 |
| accomplishments and wish her the best in her future endeavors | 21 |
| as she steps down from her position with the Illinois | 22 |
| Mathematics and Science Academy; and be it further
