| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Beatrice Scescke for her | 4 | | work in creating the Chicago Rewilding Society and for making | 5 | | spaces for nature and natural activities within Chicago; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, As a child, Beatrice Scescke lived in Ukrainian | 7 | | Village and then moved with her family to Logan Square, Palmer | 8 | | Square, and then the North Side, around Devon and Western; she | 9 | | currently lives in Garfield Park; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Beatrice Scescke is the founder of the Chicago | 11 | | Rewilding Society, which is a neighborhood dreamscape nature | 12 | | sanctuary stationed in Garfield Park; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Beatrice Scescke was inspired to create the | 14 | | sanctuary by her life experiences, including childhood trips | 15 | | to Kentucky, competing on the equestrian team in college, her | 16 | | agricultural major, and touring internationally working with | 17 | | horses and goats in the circus; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Rescued animals living at the sanctuary include | 19 | | horses, goats, and chickens and can provide a feeling of | 20 | | connectivity with the humans they encounter; the society has | 21 | | participated in local events, providing pony rides for |

| 1 | | children, and hopes to expand on opportunities for local | 2 | | school children to interact with animals from the sanctuary; | 3 | | and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Beatrice Scescke and the Chicago Rewilding | 5 | | Society believe interacting with animals amplifies joy, sparks | 6 | | a connection to nature, and can be extremely therapeutic, | 7 | | especially in a city environment; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 9 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we recognize Beatrice Scescke for her work in creating the | 11 | | Chicago Rewilding Society and for making spaces for nature and | 12 | | natural activities within Chicago; and be it further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to Beatrice Scescke as a symbol of our esteem and | 15 | | respect.
