| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, | 3 | | was signed into law by
President Barack Obama on March 23, | 4 | | 2010; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The goal of the Affordable Care Act was to give | 6 | | more Americans access to affordable,
quality health insurance | 7 | | by expanding the affordability, quality, and availability of | 8 | | private and
public health insurance; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, The Affordable Care Act helps young people by | 10 | | letting them stay on their parents'
healthcare plan until the | 11 | | age of 26; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The Affordable Care Act expanded Medicaid to | 13 | | millions of people in the states that chose to
expand the | 14 | | program; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Affordable Care Act helps those who need | 16 | | health insurance the most by
requiring all insurers to cover | 17 | | people with pre-existing conditions; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Affordable Care Act has drastically decreased | 19 | | the number of uninsured
Americans; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, It is estimated that, as of 2016, 20 million | 2 | | additional Americans have health insurance
because of the | 3 | | Affordable Care Act; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, For the year 2017, near1y 500,000 Illinoisans | 5 | | applied for healthcare coverage
provided under the Affordable | 6 | | Care Act; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, In June of 2012, the Affordable Care Act was | 8 | | deemed constitutional by the United
States Supreme Court; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, President Donald Trump and Congress have | 10 | | discussed repealing the Affordable
Care Act but have offered no | 11 | | plan to replace it; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Repealing the Affordable Care Act would be | 13 | | detrimental to the lives of millions of
Americans; therefore, | 14 | | be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 16 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 17 | | urge President Donald Trump and Congress to cease their efforts | 18 | | to repeal the Affordable Care Act; and be it further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 20 | | delivered to President Donald Trump, U.S.
