| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Walter A. Sava of St. | 4 |
| Charles on Tuesday, April 5, 2005; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born July 20, 1929, in Chicago; he | 6 |
| valiantly served his country as a member of the United States | 7 |
| Army during the Korean War; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He moved to St. Charles when he was discharged | 9 |
| from the military and worked at Western Electric in West | 10 |
| Chicago for over 32 years, serving as a manager; he then turned | 11 |
| his attention to giving back to his community; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, He was elected a trustee of the St. Charles | 13 |
| Township board in 1979 and rose to the level of township | 14 |
| supervisor in 1983, a post he held until 1993; under his watch, | 15 |
| the township expanded to a new building on Dean Street, created | 16 |
| a board to oversee donations to senior service programs, and | 17 |
| helped start a food pantry; for a time, he served | 18 |
| simultaneously as township supervisor and a county board member | 19 |
| representing the township; and
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, For his fellow Republicans, he set an example of | 21 |
| how to build consensus and work as a peacemaker rather than a | 22 |
| glory hound in his three decades as a St. Charles Township | 23 |
| precinct committeeman and one-time vice chairman; he is | 24 |
| remembered as one of the most active volunteers ever; and
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Sava was the first to volunteer to hop on the | 26 |
| snow plow if needed and made it a practice to drive around his | 27 |
| district periodically just to hear how people thought things | 28 |
| were going; as a politician, he made it his goal to reach out | 29 |
| to the needy and lead by example; and

| WHEREAS, Always overflowing with energy, he was not content | 2 |
| just helping out in the township; he served on the St. Charles | 3 |
| Zoning Board of Appeals and eventually became President of Kane | 4 |
| County's appeals board in the 1970s; he was active in his | 5 |
| church, St. Patrick's in St. Charles, and served on the Baker | 6 |
| Memorial Community Center Board, helping forge the town's | 7 |
| recreation options; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Sava also campaigned tirelessly for his wife, | 9 |
| Lorraine Sava, who became the county's circuit clerk; he would | 10 |
| frequently stop in the office to flash a smile and share a joke | 11 |
| or tell a story about his hobbies: gardening, fishing, and | 12 |
| rooting for the Chicago White Sox; he also was a member and | 13 |
| officer of the St. Charles Jaycees; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Walter A. Sava has been deeply felt | 15 |
| by many, especially his wife of 54 years, Lorraine; his son, | 16 |
| Stu (Tammi) Sava; his sisters, Dorothy (Ray) Goslin and Millie | 17 |
| (Robert) Nowicki; and his brother, Paul (Lorraine) Sava; | 18 |
| therefore, be it
| 19 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 20 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 21 |
| Walter A. Sava, and we offer our deepest sympathy to his | 22 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 23 |
| further
| 24 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 25 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our sincere | 26 |
| condolences.
