| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Edward John "Ed" Buss of McHenry, who | 4 | | passed away on February 23, 2023; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ed Buss was born on April 17, 1929, and he resided | 6 | | in McHenry his entire life; he excelled in academics and | 7 | | athletics in his youth; he married Joan Theresa in May 1950; | 8 | | and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, After his father's unexpected passing, Ed Buss | 10 | | assumed the responsibility for his father's auto dealership, | 11 | | Buss Ford, at the age of 18 and became a successful | 12 | | businessman; although he rarely sold a car himself at the | 13 | | dealership, he would take care of problems and give people a | 14 | | ride home when their cars were being serviced; his sons joined | 15 | | the business in the 1970s, and one of his grandsons now runs | 16 | | it; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ed Buss was a civic-minded individual; he began | 18 | | his political life at the age of 33 in April 1963, running as | 19 | | an independent for the McHenry County Board; during his | 20 | | tenure, he was instrumental in the building of the Charles | 21 | | Miller Road and its bridge; he served on the board for 25 | 22 | | years, retiring in 1988 after spending the last four years |

| 1 | | serving as chair; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, Ed Buss coached youth baseball, basketball, and | 3 | | football; he was a lifetime supporter and a member of the | 4 | | McHenry Little League Association Board for 12 years; for his | 5 | | efforts and dedication, he was inducted into the McHenry | 6 | | Little League Association Hall of Fame, and Buss Field in | 7 | | McHenry was named after him; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ed Buss's fondest memories were spent at the | 9 | | McHenry Country Club, where he won 13 club championships and | 10 | | 13 senior club championships and boasted a best round of 62; he | 11 | | was on the country club board of directors for 12 years and | 12 | | served as president for four years; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Ed Buss and Joan were members of St. Mary's | 14 | | Church in McHenry for their entire married life; in | 15 | | retirement, he enjoyed playing the stock market and wintering | 16 | | at their home in Surprise, Arizona; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Ed Buss was preceded in death by his wife of 72 | 18 | | years, Joan; his parents, Edward Buss Sr. and Ella (Newman) | 19 | | Buss; his grandson, Ryan; his sister, Betty; and his brother, | 20 | | Bernie; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Ed Buss is survived by his children, Judie (Leo) |

| 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 6 | | Edward John "Ed" Buss and extend our sincere condolences to | 7 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 8 | | further
| 9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 | | presented to the family of Ed Buss as an expression of our | 11 | | deepest sympathy.
