| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Mary Diane Seibel Cronin on September 8, | 4 | | 2018 at the age of 89; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Cronin was born on May 9, 1929 in | 6 | | Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended St. Catherine University | 7 | | in St. Paul, where she graduated valedictorian of her class; | 8 | | and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Mary Cronin loved to act; she fell in love with | 10 | | the stage at the age of 19 in her first professional role at | 11 | | The Old Log Theater in Excelsior, Minnesota; she and her | 12 | | husband at the time, James Cronin, founded The Village Players, | 13 | | an Oak Park theater company; known by the stage name Mary | 14 | | Seibel, she was a proud union member of the American Federation | 15 | | of Television and Radio Artists, the Actors' Equity | 16 | | Association, and the Screen Actors Guild, serving as an | 17 | | advocate and as the fifth national vice president of SAG; for | 18 | | her service to SAG, she received the prestigious Howard Keel | 19 | | Award, the highest honor given by the SAG-AFTRA Committee of | 20 | | Locals; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Mary Cronin had roles in Robert Altman's "A | 22 | | Wedding", "The Package", "Major League", "Men Don't Leave", and |

| 1 | | "Raising Arizona"; television credits included "The | 2 | | Untouchables", "Crime Story", "Murder Ordained", "Good Night | 3 | | Sweet Wife", and "Deep Secrets"; she also performed in theaters | 4 | | throughout the country, most notably at Goodman Theatre, | 5 | | Victory Gardens Theatre, and Steppenwolf Theatre; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mary Cronin was never happier than when she was in | 7 | | a show, digging up weeds in her garden in Lansing, Iowa, or on | 8 | | a boat in Minnesota with her sons on the first day of fishing | 9 | | season; she was famous for arriving at any family gathering | 10 | | with a large ham in the back seat; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Mary Cronin will be remembered for her glorious, | 12 | | passionate, beautiful life and also for singing at the top of | 13 | | her lungs in the basement of the house in Oak Park, for | 14 | | welcoming all to dinner, and for long zealous political | 15 | | conversations around the kitchen table with a bottomless cup of | 16 | | coffee; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Mary Cronin was the loving mother of Brian, Colin, | 18 | | Sean, Dennis, Kathryn, Michael, and Margaret; the beloved | 19 | | sister of Nancy Culligan and Dorothy "Sunny" Seibel and Dr. | 20 | | Michael Seibel; she lives on in the spirit of her 11 | 21 | | grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 | | presented to the family of Mary Cronin as an expression of our | 7 | | deepest sympathy.
