| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Lyle E. Shields of Dewey, who passed away | 4 | | on April 5, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Lyle Shields was born on July 26, 1923, in | 6 | | Champaign County; his parents were Fred and Bertha Shields; he | 7 | | married Lois Foster in 1945; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Lyle Shields followed in his grandfather and | 9 | | father's footsteps when he became a third-generation farmer; he | 10 | | farmed throughout his entire life; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Lyle Shields was active in area government and | 12 | | leadership activities; he was a member of the Champaign County | 13 | | Board for 41 years and served as chairman of the board from | 14 | | 1986 to 1996; he also served as Condit Township supervisor for | 15 | | 36 years and as a volunteer fireman with the Sangamon Valley | 16 | | Fire Protection District for 40 years; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Lyle Shields served on the National Association of | 18 | | Counties for 11 years as a member of the board of directors; he | 19 | | served as president of the United Counties Council of Illinois | 20 | | for 2 years; he served as a Republican Precinct Committeeman | 21 | | for 30 years; he was also a member of the Champaign County Farm |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Lyle Shields was selected as Farm Leader of the | 3 | | Year by the Champaign-Urbana News Gazette in 1992; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Lyle Shields was preceded in death by his son, | 5 | | James Shields; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Lyle Shields is survived by his wife, Lois; his | 7 | | children, Eugene, Sandra (Jim) Stubbins, and Vicki; his | 8 | | daughter-in-law, Stacy; his grandchildren, Jeremy Shields | 9 | | (Ashley), Joshua Shields, Justin and Jonah Shields, Danielle | 10 | | Stubbins, and Jarad Stubbins; his great-granddaughter, Katie; | 11 | | his brother, Duane Shields; his sister-in-law, Pat; and his | 12 | | many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 15 | | his family and friends, the passing of Lyle E. Shields; and be | 16 | | it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Lyle Shields as an expression of our | 19 | | sympathy.
