| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the staff, | 4 | | faculty, students, and alumni of St. Joseph High School in | 5 | | Westchester as they celebrate the institution's golden | 6 | | anniversary; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, St. Joseph High School in Westchester was founded | 8 | | in 1960; St. Joseph High School is a Catholic, co-educational, | 9 | | college-preparatory high school sponsored by the Lasallian | 10 | | Christian Brothers; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, After the closing of Immaculate Heart of Mary High | 12 | | School, St. Joseph High School became co-educational and moved | 13 | | into the former Immaculate Heart of Mary building to | 14 | | accommodate an expanding enrollment; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, St. Joseph High School's curriculum has received | 16 | | the highest rating offered by the North Central Association of | 17 | | Colleges and Universities;
St. Joseph High School was the first | 18 | | high school in the Chicago area, and one of a select few high | 19 | | schools' in the country, to employ a one-to-one laptop learning | 20 | | program, where each student uses a laptop computer, every day, | 21 | | for every class;
St. Joseph High School embraces technology | 22 | | resulting in students who are more effective critical thinkers, |

| 1 | | problem solvers, communicators, and researchers; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, St. Joseph High School produces technology-savvy | 3 | | students who are excellently prepared to meet the demands of an | 4 | | evolving global society;
St. Joseph High School is the only | 5 | | high school with a credentialed Men's and Women's Leadership | 6 | | Academy, which teaches leadership skills in a daily class for | 7 | | each of its students;
St. Joseph High School strengthens the | 8 | | character of students through a constant focus on faith and | 9 | | service based on Lasallian Christian Brother traditions;
St. | 10 | | Joseph High School fosters a family atmosphere and provides | 11 | | personalized attention to all students;
and | 12 | | WHEREAS, St. Joseph High School converted to a | 13 | | co-educational mission to accommodate Immaculate Heart of Mary | 14 | | students and other young women from the area; in addition, | 15 | | innovative single gender and co-educational class options were | 16 | | developed for all students;
St. Joseph High School welcomes | 17 | | students from all backgrounds, resulting in a tremendously | 18 | | diverse enrollment composed of students from different racial, | 19 | | academic, economic, social, and religious backgrounds coming | 20 | | from more than 100 elementary schools in and around Chicago and | 21 | | its suburbs;
St. Joseph High School transforms diversity into | 22 | | an asset by teaching students to work successfully with others | 23 | | from multiple backgrounds, resulting in young men and women | 24 | | genuinely prepared for the real world;

| 1 | | understands the value of change and incorporates new ideas for | 2 | | an increasingly relevant education;
St. Joseph High School is a | 3 | | school where 99% of graduates, regardless of background, are | 4 | | accepted into their college of first choice; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, On April 9, 2011, St. Joseph High School will | 6 | | celebrate its 50 years of educational excellence at the Golden | 7 | | Jubilee Gala; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 9 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we congratulate everyone involved in the 50th anniversary of | 11 | | St. Joseph High School and wish them continued success for | 12 | | years to come; and be it further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to Donna Kiel, Principal of St. Joseph High School, | 15 | | as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
