| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Osteosarcoma, which is also called osteogenic | 3 | | sarcoma, is the most common type of cancer that starts in the | 4 | | bones; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The cancer cells in these tumors look like early | 6 | | forms of bone cells that normally help make new bone tissue, | 7 | | but the bone tissue in an osteosarcoma is not as strong as that | 8 | | in normal bones; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Most osteosarcomas occur in children, teens, and | 10 | | young adults; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Although teens are the most commonly affected age | 12 | | group, osteosarcoma can develop at any age; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, In children, teens, and young adults, | 14 | | osteosarcoma usually starts in areas where the bone is growing | 15 | | quickly, such as near the ends of the leg or arm bones; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Many symptoms of osteosarcoma can be easily | 17 | | ignored as normal growing pains in children, which makes | 18 | | regular check-ups and referrals to specialists extremely | 19 | | important; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Prompt diagnosis and identification of cancer is | 2 | | crucial to successful treatment; therefore, be it
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 4 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 5 | | we declare September 15, 2023 as "Osteosarcoma Awareness Day" | 6 | | in the State of Illinois; and be it further
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That we urge the federal government to allocate | 8 | | more funding toward finding a cure for osteosarcoma; and be it | 9 | | further | 10 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 11 | | delivered to the President of the United States, the U.S. | 12 | | Senate Majority Leader, the U.S. Senate Minority Leader, the | 13 | | U.S. Speaker of the House, the U.S. House of Representatives | 14 | | Minority Leader, and all members of the Illinois Congressional | 15 | | Delegation.
