1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois learned with regret of the death of Robert W. Latham
4 of Peoria on September 26, 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Robert W. Latham was born on May 10, 1928 in
6 Lima, Ohio to Leonard and Charlotte Vondron Latham; he
7 married Edna Hemphill on July 15, 1951 in Peoria; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Latham served in the United States Navy
9 during World War II; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Latham began working for the Peoria Police
11 Department as a patrolman on September 12, 1953, becoming a
12 sergeant on September 22, 1958, a lieutenant on December 3,
13 1960, a captain on March 20, 1967, a chief on March 5, 1972,
14 and retiring as a captain on November 1, 1985; and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. Latham was a member of the Peoria Police
16 Benevolent, the Fraternal Order of Police, the City of Peoria
17 Retirees, and the Radnor Rod & Gun Club in Dunlap; and
18 WHEREAS, Mr. Latham was a member of St. Vincent de Paul
19 Catholic Church in Peoria; and
20 WHEREAS, The passing of Robert Latham has been deeply
21 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Edna
22 Latham; his son, Lonie Latham; his daughters, Sandra Latham,
23 Jodie Latham, and Stephanie (Sam) Polito; his sister, Laura
24 Inskeep; his seven grandchildren; and his great-grandchild;
25 he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, his
26 brother, and a grandson; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
29 all who knew him, the death of Robert W. Latham of Peoria;
30 and be it further

2 presented to the family of Robert W. Latham with our
