| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Village of Fox | 4 |
| Lake on the occasion of the Village centennial; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The Fox Lake region was used as an isolated | 6 |
| fishing and hunting spot in the late 19th century, attracting | 7 |
| the wealthy sportsmen who would construct private clubhouses in | 8 |
| the area; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, In 1907 the area began its "resort heyday" when | 10 |
| new hotels, cottages, saloons, and public resorts were | 11 |
| constructed, taking over the private clubhouses; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, In 1907 Fox Lake became an incorporated Village | 13 |
| with an elected village president also recognized as the mayor; | 14 |
| the first mayor, John Brown, was a storekeeper and the first | 15 |
| postmaster of the Village; during his time as mayor he saw the | 16 |
| construction of the first Village hall, the fire department was | 17 |
| formed, as well as a law enforcement agency; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, At the time of incorporation there were between | 19 |
| 200 and 400 full-time residents in the area; today the | 20 |
| population exceeds 9,000 people; and

| WHEREAS, In recent years, the summer cottages and small | 2 |
| resorts have been replaced by year-round residences, with | 3 |
| people taking advantage of the miles of shoreline and | 4 |
| recognizing that it is a good place to live; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, With a downtown revitalization project in | 6 |
| progress, school building additions being built, and new stores | 7 |
| opening, Fox Lake is experiencing an exciting period of growth; | 8 |
| therefore, be it | 9 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 10 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 11 |
| congratulate the citizens of Fox Lake at this special time in | 12 |
| the Village history and wish them continued success in the | 13 |
| future; and be it further
| 14 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 |
| presented to the Mayor of Fox Lake, Cindy Irwin, as a symbol of | 16 |
| our esteem.
