| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of the Honorable Justice Daniel A. Moore | 4 | | Jr., who passed away on September 11, 2022 at the age of 88; | 5 | | and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore was born the second of nine children | 7 | | to Daniel Moore Sr. and Irma Moore in Oak Park in 1933; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore had a childhood full of family | 9 | | gatherings, competitive sports, and good memories; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore was a star debater and graduated | 11 | | from Cathedral High School in Duluth, Minnesota in 1951; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore graduated from the University of | 13 | | Notre Dame with a bachelor's degree in business administration | 14 | | in 1955; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore served in the U.S. Marines for two | 16 | | years while simultaneously attending night law school, | 17 | | eventually receiving his law degree from the University of | 18 | | Denver; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore worked summer jobs with Western |

| 1 | | Electric in remote parts of Alaska before starting his long | 2 | | and distinguished legal career in Alaska; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore's career included serving as a | 4 | | magistrate judge of the District Court for two years, a | 5 | | prominent defense attorney at Delaney Wiles for 20 years, | 6 | | where he served as a managing partner for many years, and a | 7 | | trial judge of the Superior Court for two years; he served on | 8 | | the highest court in the State of Alaska, the Alaska Supreme | 9 | | Court, for 12 years from 1983 to 1995, during which he authored | 10 | | several hundred court opinions; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore, after retiring as chief justice | 12 | | from the Alaska Supreme Court in 1995, worked as a contracted | 13 | | mediator/arbitrator for 10 years, successfully ending with a | 14 | | 95% settlement rate; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore was proud of all of the law clerks he | 16 | | mentored and helped begin their respective law careers; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore became a Silver Life Master in | 18 | | Contract Bridge in his 30s, and he continued to be a skilled | 19 | | and passionate player until a month before his passing; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore served on various public and private | 21 | | boards, often as chair; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore was very pragmatic and logical in | 2 | | how he lived his life, and he was very generous to others; he | 3 | | had a big heart and genuinely wanted the best for his family, | 4 | | friends, and acquaintances; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Moore was preceded in death by his eldest | 6 | | child, Brideen, and five of his eight siblings, George, Pat, | 7 | | Nancy, Tim, and Jim; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Daniel Moore was | 9 | | survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia; his son, Daniel | 10 | | (Stephanie); his granddaughters, Maddy and Elise; and his | 11 | | remaining siblings, Kay (Chuck), Mary Helen, and Michael (the | 12 | | late Patti); therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 15 | | the Honorable Justice Daniel A. Moore Jr. and extend our | 16 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 17 | | and loved him; and be it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Daniel Moore as an expression of our | 20 | | deepest sympathy.
