| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Leonard W. Biedermann of Woodstock, who | 4 | | passed away on March 3, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann was born to Walter and Louise | 6 | | (Schmitt) Biedermann on March 24, 1925 and grew up in the | 7 | | family business, Biedermann Brothers Coffee in Chicago; he | 8 | | attended Tilden High School before joining the United States | 9 | | Coast Guard, where he proudly served as a signalman on Landing | 10 | | Craft Infantry 322 in the South Pacific during World War II; he | 11 | | earned his degree in English and journalism from Northwestern | 12 | | University and married Helen Bigelow in 1948 in Lombard, where | 13 | | they lived until moving to Woodstock in 1961; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann spent most of his career in | 15 | | publishing; he was a creative director at the educational | 16 | | publishing company, Science Research and Associates; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann was an avid fisherman and | 18 | | cherished his time on the water; he was a 4-H leader and loved | 19 | | the county fair; he and Helen were wonderful dancers and took | 20 | | art classes together; at the age of 89, he published a | 21 | | biography of Helen's brother, which he counted among his | 22 | | greatest accomplishments; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann flew the flag every day and | 2 | | attended countless ceremonies for Veterans Day and Memorial | 3 | | Day; in 2011, he flew on the Tulsa Honor Flight with other | 4 | | World War II veterans to visit the Washington military | 5 | | monuments; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann was preceded in death by his | 7 | | parents and his brother, Richard Biedermann; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann is survived by his wife of 69 | 9 | | years, Helen; his daughters, Christine (Bill) Walker, Amy Halm, | 10 | | and Janet (Edward) Hall; his sons, Bill (Penny) and Geoffrey | 11 | | Biedermann; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; | 12 | | therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 15 | | Leonard W. Biedermann, and extend our sincere condolences to | 16 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 17 | | further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Leonard Biedermann as an expression | 20 | | of our deepest sympathy.
