| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize the valiant work of those | 4 | | associated with the Boy Scouts of America Iroquois Trail | 5 | | district; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The Iroquois Trail district represents 32 | 7 | | Scouting troops, over 1,000 Scouts, and 350 adult
members and | 8 | | volunteers; it has brought the rich tradition of Scouting and
| 9 | | community service to the heart of Chicago; it represents a | 10 | | collection of diverse
neighborhoods in the City of Chicago, | 11 | | including, Archer Heights, Back of the Yards,
Bridgeport, | 12 | | Brighton Park, Canaryville, Cicero, Clearing, Ford City, Gage | 13 | | Park, Little
Village, Lower West Side, Marshall Square, | 14 | | McKinley Park, Midway, New City, Pilsen,
South Lawndale, and | 15 | | West Elsdon; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, These neighborhoods are some of the most | 17 | | economically
depressed areas in Chicago and offer very few | 18 | | community-based youth programs; the Iroquois Trail district | 19 | | leadership has spearheaded outreach
into these areas; their | 20 | | commitment and drive to help introduce children and their | 21 | | families to
the values of Scouting in these communities is | 22 | | exemplary in following the Scout Oath; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The Scouts of the Iroquois Trail district should | 2 | | be commended for their
tireless work incorporating the | 3 | | underprivileged youth in the City of Chicago into their | 4 | | programs; regardless of
gender, ethnicity, skin color, and or | 5 | | sexual orientation, they push for inclusiveness, providing
| 6 | | opportunities for those who normally would not have any; their | 7 | | commitment to help guide
children to make ethical and moral | 8 | | choices, not just as Scouts but as individuals, should be
| 9 | | highlighted; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, As a result of the strong leadership, a number of | 11 | | successes occurred for the Iroquois Trail district
Scouts in | 12 | | 2016; over 300 new Scouts joined; 13 Scouts reached the
highest | 13 | | rank achievable, Eagle Scout; the Scouts collectively | 14 | | volunteered over 5,000 hours of service in their communities | 15 | | and continued in participating in Honor Flights to Washington, | 16 | | D.C. with local veterans; and they collected the most food | 17 | | overall in the past year for the Scouting for Food drive; | 18 | | therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 20 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 21 | | recognize the valiant work of
those associated with the Boy | 22 | | Scouts of America Iroquois Trail district; and be it further
| 23 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |

| 1 | | presented to the members of the Iroquois Trail district as a | 2 | | symbol of our respect and esteem.
