| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John J. Stamos of Northbrook, who passed | 4 | | away on January 28, 2017 at the age of 92; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Stamos was born in Chicago and grew up in | 6 | | South Chicago; he graduated from Bowen High School and attended | 7 | | DePaul University; he earned a law degree from the DePaul | 8 | | University College of Law in 1948 and served in the United | 9 | | States Army during World War II, where he was assigned to | 10 | | Belgium; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, John Stamos worked for the City of Chicago as an | 12 | | Assistant Corporation Counsel and was assigned to the jury | 13 | | court from 1951 until 1953; in 1954, he joined the State's | 14 | | Attorney's staff; he worked in private practice from the start | 15 | | of 1959 until the end of 1960, when he took over the criminal | 16 | | division; in December of 1964, he was promoted to first | 17 | | assistant; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, John Stamos served as Cook County State's Attorney | 19 | | from 1966 to 1968 and led the prosecution of Richard Speck; he | 20 | | then accepted a judicial nomination to serve on the State | 21 | | Appellate Court's First District; he won election to the post | 22 | | in 1968, 1972, and 1976; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, In retirement, John Stamos enjoyed painting and | 2 | | took on some legal assignments, including arbitrations, in his | 3 | | son's law firm; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, John Stamos was preceded in death by his first | 5 | | wife, Helen; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, John Stamos is survived by his second wife, Mary | 7 | | "Daisy" Stamos; his son, James Stamos; his daughters, Theo | 8 | | Stamos, Colleen Stamos, and Jana DiMartino; his sisters, | 9 | | Christine Gehopolos, and Zoe Rummel; four grandsons; his | 10 | | stepdaughters, Cynthia McGarrigle, and Andrea Fernandes; and | 11 | | his stepson, Dean Sotter; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 14 | | John J. Stamos, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 16 | | further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of John Stamos as an expression of our | 19 | | deepest sympathy.
